Taking my cue from Kym this week, here are 3 simple things that are making…
Three On Thursday

Three random things again this week because I’m feeling woefully uninspired about posting . . .
- We had Employee Appreciation Day at work yesterday. All town employees were invited to lunch at Town Hall and there was so much food! It was all donated by local businesses and restaurants and I think that made me feel appreciated as much as anything, just to have them be willing to do that felt like recognition for the important roll we play in town. There were prizes, and one member of my staff won a Yeti cup with the town seal on it. We got the rest of the day off and it was definitely a good time.
- I think I’m in a reading slump. I’ve only read two books this month. One was Dan Brown’s The Secret of Secrets and that just felt like a recycled bunch of his other books. The other was The Girls Who Grew Big by Leila Mottley and that was excellent. And I’m now reading The First Witch of Boston by Andrea Catalano. It’s okay so far. I’m just not feeling inspired to pick it up and read it and that was just how I felt with the previous two books as well. I think I need an easy and captivating read to jump start me so hit me up with any suggestions.
- Last Friday, when Trump fired a whole bunch of federal employees, all of the librarians at the CDC were also let go. While some of the CDC employees have been reinstated, none of the librarians have been brought back to work. The work of librarians is often overlooked and the role they play at an institution like the CDC is critical for getting accurate and timely research into the hands of public health professionals. There is a petition at everylibrary.org to get them reinstated and if you would like to sign it I would appreciate it.
And that’s all I have for you today! Make it a good day.

Petition is signed!!
Carole, I am so sorry to hear about the librarians at the CDC. Of course I will sign the petition, although I feel hopeless about them hearing anyone’s voices except their own. It is very nice to feel appreciated, and your town must be a very nice place to do that for their staff. I am very familiar with reading slumps, especially since everything in my life went south almost two years ago. It’s hard to focus when you feel unsettled all the time. I have found that reading lighter things helped me a lot. So here are my suggestions for books you may not be familiar with. (It’s a bit intimidating to make suggestions to a librarian!) Allison Montclair’s series with the first book titled The RIght Sort of Man, Deanna Raybourne’s Veronica Speedwell series, Elly Griffith’s Ruth Galloway series, Ashley Weaver’s Electra McDonnell series, and I could go on and on. 🙂 If you are by now sensing a theme, there is! Novels with a single woman protagonist making her way in an unsympathetic world always seems to improve my mood and get me back into the swing of reading. And if all else fails, I read an old favorite or cookbooks. I love to read cookbooks, and I own waay too many of them. My very best wishes for finding something that is fun and engaging to get you back in the swing of things.
That was quite an Employee Appreciation Day, and would surely have made me feel valued. I’m also in a minor reading slump, but I borrowed two books from the library’s Banned Books display. They are interesting reading! All of the hospitals that I have worked at have had librarians and they were necessary but undervalued. They are the people that catalog all of those valuable medical references and subscribe to hundreds of journals, so I have signed the petition. The CDC would be a much better place if people had access to and paid attention to actual science and research, all organized by librarians!
Oooh, I don’t want to hear that about Dan Browns book, it’s on my list! I’m also reading The First Witch of Boston and feel pretty much the same way about it. I’m still listening to The Shell Seekers and loving that.
Petition signed. So much wasteful pettiness going on, with dire consequences.
Thank you for that petition link — SIGNED! (F Trump)
I have too much to post about & that always leaves me feeling overwhelmed. Eventually, I’ll just simplify! haha.
I’m glad your town showed just how much they appreciated you! I wish the federal government would do the same — and I’m off to go sign that petition!
