Three On Thursday

Another Thursday, another random brain dump . . .

  1. I have woken up the past 2 nights (mornings, really) at 4am and been unable to fall back to sleep. This isn’t like me at all and I’m not sure of the cause. Maybe the state of the world? Maybe worry about some family drama? I don’t get up, because I feel like my body is at least resting while I stay in bed. I do read, however, and that’s how I managed to finish Katabasis (meh, not for me) and start The Light in the Ruins. That one is very promising and I’m thankful to Kym for the recommendation.
  2. Speaking of Kym, we had a chat last night about the sweater she’s been knitting for Tom because it’s the same one that I’ve been knitting for Dale. I am very far behind her but she had some good insights and advice to offer and I have taken that to heart and adjusted some of what I’m doing accordingly. Knitting a sweater can be so maddening. Even when you get gauge and do all the right things there’s still a chance it won’t fit and that’s always worrisome when you’ve invested a lot of money and time.
  3. I marched in our town’s Veteran’s Parade on Tuesday with my colleagues from the Select Board. It was windy and cold and the turn out was much lower than we usually see. Still, I was walking alongside our town’s Veteran’s Services Officer and he was in his uniform and so many people along the parade route called to him and thanked him for his service. It did my heart good to witness that.

I hope you have a terrific Thursday.

  1. Three am is when I wake up and I think mine has to do with the state of the world. I’m lucky that I don’t have to get up and be coherent at a job, so I hope you get your early morning waking resolved. Our town doesn’t have a parade but I know a lot of people here didn’t have Veteran’s Day off. It only seemed to be a holiday for the post office so maybe that was why your turnout was low?

  2. I have been waking up at that time every morning as well. I think it is a combination of family stress and worldly stress. I need to manage my stress better. I hope yours gets better. And yes, there are so many uncivililized things going on that is really does my heart good to have something positive happen or said in public.

  3. I tend to wake up between 2-4 every morning. Most times I’m able to just roll over and go back to sleep but sometimes I just toss and turn till 6 when the alarm goes off.

  4. I’m sorry to hear about the too-early wake-ups. Those are always so infuriating. I often wake up not too long before an alarm is going to go off, which usually isn’t enough time to fall back asleep, so I just lie there. It does do my heart good to hear how veterans were thanked in your town, even if attendance in the parade was lower than usual.

  5. I am in the 3AM boat with Bonny… it is so frustrating. I don’t read, but I do try and do some slow breathing to try and settle my racing brain!
