Eye Candy Friday

This Japanese Maple popped up in the middle of our lilac bush a couple of years ago. At first it was just a twig but it has survived and it continues to grow. The leaves positively glow in the afternoon sunlight these days. I’m considering razing the lilac (I’m allergic and really not a fan and it’s wildly woody and overgrown) and staking this tree and seeing what happens. In the meantime, I’m just enjoying the bright red pop of color by my driveway.
I hope you see something bright and colorful this weekend!

Beautiful! I was just telling Fletch the other day I’d like a Japanese Maple where we had a weeping cherry in our front yard (the cherry died a few years ago).
I would prefer a lovely Japanese maple over an overgrown lilac! Thanks for sharing that lovely glow.
I love seeing Japanese maples in the fall. I think your idea to stake it and nurture it is a good one. I really do enjoy anything that brings color to the landscape during fall and winter.
We spent a lot of money on the Japanese maple we planted in our front yard a couple of years ago, so you got very lucky with your volunteer! I hope you’re able to nurture it because the leaves are truly magical at this time of year.
Beautiful, Carole… and at a time when most of the color is gone!
Oh, definitely! Nurture that Japanese maple and say goodbye to the lilac. That lovely Japanese maple will bring you such joy — AND it really wants to be in your garden. XO
