Three On Thursday

I don’t know about you, but at this time of year, with all of the gatherings and parties, I feel like I’m constantly cooking or baking something to bring to a party. I have 3 go-to things that I make over and over and I thought I’d share them with you today.

  1. If I’m asked to bring an appetizer, I’m making deviled eggs. They are fast and easy, I always have the ingredients on hand, and with this handy carry case, they are easy to transport. I feel like everyone knows how to make deviled eggs, but if you don’t, my filling is just egg yolks, mayo, a smidge of dry mustard, and sweet relish.
  2. If I’m asked to bring a main dish, I’m making meatballs. Maybe frozen ones with tomato sauce. Or maybe frozen ones with chili sauce and grape jelly. Or, if it’s someone I really like, homemade Swedish meatballs.
  3. If I’m asked to bring a dessert, I’m making Swedish almond cake. You do have to have a special pan, but it’s reasonably priced and makes for a very pretty presentation. I make so many of these at this time of year that I don’t even have to look at the recipe.

Happy partying!

  1. You are a smart cookie, Carole. I also take deviled eggs to a lot of things because they are easy, and everybody loves them, including me. But I had not thought about meatballs since I rarely eat meat, but that is a very clever main to take. I have never had swedish almond cake, but I am thoroughly intrigued. Am I going to buy yet another cake pan? Maybe…

  2. Mmmm, deviled eggs are the best! I love seeing them at a gathering. The almond cakes look delicious! Thanks for sharing the recipe (and the link to the pan!)

  3. I’m a deviled egg maker as well. That almond cake looks so delicious. We have a player who brings it to mahjong and I am always so happy! Good stuff there Carole!

  4. Such excellent strategies here, I always over think these things. Although I do often take deviled eggs because they are so popular. I make an almond cake we like a lot, but I love the beautiful presentation of this one. I might have missed it in my scan of the recipe, but I assume you need to grease the pan? Thanks for the timely ideas here.

  5. Your eggs look so pretty! Thanks for taking the time to blog so frequently especially this time of year.

  6. Hmmm, I love deviled eggs. My recipe is like yours, but I usually add just a smidgen of horseradish. I also have recipes for deviled eggs with crab, Bloody Mary deviled eggs, etc., etc. That carrier is wonderful! And almond cake – LOVE. I usually just make mine in a springform pan. And now I want some!

  7. Your community of friends is so much more party-minded than mine! 😉 We have very few parties or get-togethers where I need to bring ANYthing. Mostly we meet at restaurants . . . (Which is fine by me!) (No one stresses about the menu, and no one has to clean up afterward.)

  8. I make your almond cake for just about anything I’m asked to, and it is always a crowd favorite. People who are allergic to nuts seem to think almond flavoring is ok so it is always a hit.

  9. Yum! You must have mentioned that pan before before as it shows I bought it in 2018 and I do remember using it once. I may have to find it and make a cake.
