Cookie Day 2025 Recap

We had a successful day on Monday, baking about 12 dozen cookies. It was our usual line up: spritz, ginger snaps, peanut butter balls, and raspberry thumbprints.

We took our annual selfie and I realized yesterday that we’ve been doing this now for 10 years together, with the exception of 2020 due to that stupid pandemic. We’ve been cooking together since we were just out of college, back when we had no money to get out to eat so we would make elaborate meals at her house, spending all day in the kitchen together. The beautiful thing is that we balance each other’s skills in the kitchen really well. I don’t mind mixing the dough but I hate rolling little balls . . . and Doreen doesn’t mind rolling at all. I hate dipping the peanut butter balls in chocolate but I love embellishing them with white chocolate drizzles and sprinkles after . . . and Doreen (you guessed it) really enjoys the dipping part. We laugh a lot, we sometimes cry over memories, we listen to Christmas music, and it’s a really special time together.

At the end of it all, we rewarded ourselves with snacks and drinks.

And I went home with a whole pile of cookies.

  1. What an absolutely wonderful tradition, Carole. All my cooking buddies are gone, and I miss this so much! There is no better experience between women than being the kitchen with someone who loves being the kitchen with you – yakking, cooking, and just enjoying one another and the fruits of your labor. I hope you go at least another 10 years.

  2. What a brilliant recap! (and those cookies look fantastic, but not as fantastic as the two of you!)

  3. What great memories — and a great tradition! I’m so glad you and Doreen can still get together every year for baking fun. And those cookies look fabulous! XO

  4. Baking a pile of delicious cookies is great but I really like how you and Doreen complement each other. That may be the reason for a great, long-lasting friendship!

  5. Oh what fun…and tasty too!! (Not just the cookies – the snacks look great too.). I miss having my best friend Leslie so close by (she is in NC). We always have a great time in the kitchen together.

  6. This is such a great tradition! I might need to give it a go next year. I know just the person to ask, too. Those cookies? Hubba Hubba!

  7. What a fun day! I plan to make cookies with my great niece Saturday when I have her for a few hours.

  8. I love that you have this wonderful tradition and that you complement each other so well in the process. The cookies look amazing, but I think the time you spend with a dear friend is probably more important than what you bake.
