WTF Wednesday

Allow me to show you a photo of my lunch and dinner for today:

In case it’s not obviously, I am having a colonoscopy tomorrow. I’m a frequent flyer on this particular journey since my mom died of colon cancer when she was 66. I started having this procedure in my 40s and I think this is my 6th or 7th time. Even so, I still get anxious in the days leading up to it and I still loathe prep day.

I remind myself, though, that this is a responsible, grown-up, body-loving, albeit deeply annoying, thing to do. I also remind myself that keeping up with these screenings is a sort of on-going conversation with my mom, and a way to keep her story alive so that what happened to her doesn’t happen to me.

Send good juju, mmmmkay?

  1. The prep is not fun but you’re doing the right thing by keeping up with the screenings. Praying for a good outcome.

  2. So sorry about the prep and the frequency; thank goodness for the sedation. Hoping for good results and kitties at your side afterwards.

  3. Being a responsible adult sometimes just blows, ya know? You are definitely doing the right thing, and all good juju to you.

  4. Sending all the healthy juju your way. I hate the prep too (though last year it didn’t seem as bad??…). Glad you are routinely checked – so important. Like Judy, we always go out to breakfast after!

  5. Good luck! Prep is the worst. I go every 5 years for the colonoscopy and endoscopy as my Aunt passed from Esophageal cancer. I enjoy the nice warm blankets that our hospital provides.

  6. There’s nothing to like about the prep — but good for you. It’s important. Now if they could just invent a way to prep that wasn’t the worst. ‘Cause they all are. Good luck.

  7. I hope the prep went as easily as possible and you get a completely clear scan today! I also hope you have a good meal planned for later.

  8. Congratulations on taking control of your health and doing the icky stuff. One of the best things about this procedure is they can often use it to treat you at the same time if they find a concern. Here’s hoping you breeze through ’The Big Nap’ with no significant concerns, and feel like something tasty for dinner.

  9. I hope it went well… incredibly well, my friend! I know what it is like to have a family history of colon cancer (it is all over my family) but I am so thankful this procedure exists so that I don’t have to worry about it!

  10. Oh, UGH. But . . . good for you, my friend! The prep is really dreadful and seems to last an age. But . . . the procedure will soon be over! Sending ALL my best juju for a good day today. XO

  11. Sending all the good juju your way. I love that you think of this as a kind of conversation with your mom.
