Today’s recommendation is probably a little vain but I have found something that I consider life changing.

Leg makeup.

Allow me to set the scene. I can’t remember the last time I attended an event where I would be wearing a dress in the winter. And the prospect had me pretty befuddled. Do I wear panty hose? Tights? Fleece leggings that look like pantyhose? Frankly, none of those ideas appealed to me. I ultimately decided, since the dress I was wearing to the wedding hit me at mid calf, to skip it all together and go bare legged. Would it be cold? Potentially. But I also knew I’d be in and out of the car quickly at both event venues and decided a brief moment of cold was better than tugging at uncomfortable hose all night.

My winter legs, though? Pale and . . . well . . . I’m 60. They aren’t smooth and even toned like they used to be, ya know? Even with just a few inches of them showing I thought they could benefit from some help.

Leg makeup to the rescue! I bought Sally Hansen Airbrush Leg lotion in the shade Fair for $11.75 and it was amazing. It goes on easily and evened out my skin tone and made it look just like I was wearing hose. It didn’t transfer to my clothing (or sheets since I was too tired to wash it off before bed that night) and it looked really natural.

This may not be something you would ever need or consider but I’m here to tell you, if you’ve ever thought about it, go for it!

  1. Thought about it? I never knew it existed. I can see how it would be great in warm weather when it’s just too hot for hose. Maybe not for everyone, but I am really fair and try to avoid the sun as much as possible.

  2. Glad you found something that made you feel good and confident about your legs. But the concept of “leg makeup” has me shaking my head . . . because I am always befuddled by the lengths the “beauty industry” will go to convince us that we are . . . not enough the way we are. (Which is no reflection on you or your choices, my friend. Just my thoughts on how we got to the point where we think we need this stuff.)

  3. I am glad you found something that worked for you! But I am nodding my head with Kym’s thoughts about an industry that tells us what we are is not enough. Sad… so sad. (and I am trying to think about the last time I wore a dress… and I think it has been more than a decade! LOL)

  4. Hmm … interesting. I don’t dress up very often, but I will probably have to for Justin’s wedding in October. Since they don’t seem to make formal overalls, I’m currently looking at mother-of-the groom pantsuits. So thanks for letting me know that leg makeup exists. I don’t think it’s for me but I’m glad you were happy with it.

    1. Bonny, my daughter-in-law wore a beautiful navy jumpsuit (kind of wide legged — it read as a formal gown) as the bride. So it can be done — good luck, they’re out there.

  5. I know “winter legs”! And I don’t like ’em either… it’s like they glow! It’s funny, Rusty just asked me when the last time was that I wore pantyhose, which I used to wear regularly… I honestly don’t remember, but probably a couple of decades!
