The Lanes Bourbon Cocktail

It’s no secret that I enjoy a cocktail. Or three. Mostly I stick with Dirty Grey Goose Martinis but now and again I like to break out of my rut and while Dale and I were on vacation I enjoyed a delicious bourbon cocktail at The Lanes. It was so good that I made the bartender show me how to make it so that I could do it myself when we got home.

And I did. And now you can, too – here’s what you will need.

1/2 grapefruit
3-4 basil leaves
agave nectar
2 oz bourbon

Squeeze the grapefruit into a cocktail shaker. Add the basil leaves and muddle until the leaves are bruised and fragrant. Add agave nectar to taste – a healthy squirt should be enough. Add 2 oz bourbon (or maybe a leetle bit more) and ice and shake. Pour into a martini glass and garnish with a sprig of basil.

Drink.

Sigh.

  1. Not much of a bourbon drinking. I wonder how this would taste with rye? Oh never mind, I’m not going to mess with a good rye. I’ll have you make one for me next time you come to Utah!

  2. If you say so! I’ll pick up a grapefruit when I shop. Actually sounds delicious. Or…I could get what I need and have one during the game tonight!

  3. I have a whole bunch of basil. Thank you for giving me another idea of what to use it for. Yummmm……

  4. That DOES sound good. How much juice comes from the grapefruit, do you think? I have some unsweetened grapefruit juice as well as bourbon on hand. And really a lot of basil. But no agave nectar.

  5. Sounds divine. I’ll have to try this for my SIL. She loves her some mint julep, so I think this will certainly be right up her alley!
