I'm breaking with my typical Three on Thursday post this week to share with you…
Read With Us: The Winter 2025 Announcement

Today is a special day. A day that only occurs 4 times annually. It’s the day I get to tell you the book that Bonny and Kym and I have chosen for our next Read With Us discussion. And it is:
The Secret History by Donna Tartt
In keeping with our newest tradition, our winter selection is a book we consider to be a modern day classic. It’s one you very likely have already read, but it’s one we think is worthy of a re-read or a deeper dive. I will say that I have indeed read The Secret History. I remember that I loved it. I know that I didn’t read it when it was new (it came out the same year as my Hannah and my reading time was pretty limited in those days) and that’s it. I’ve heard people talk about how the characters are terrible, the story line is awful and more. And yet? I’ve got nothing except for my impression of really liking the book.
So, it feels very new to me and I’m excited about reading it with all of you. For planning purposes, our discussion will take place on Tuesday, March 25th at 7pm. This is a long book but you’ve got plenty of time and shouldn’t have to deal with wait lists from the library, whether you choose the written or audio version.
We’re truly excited about this one!

Thanks for the reminder Carole. I’ve never read it, so am looking forward to this one! Hope you are staying warm and cozy – it is bitter cold here.
I remember this one very well . . . and, yeah. The characters are kinda creepy and unlikeable. But the story itself is very good — and will be ever-so-discussable. (Lots to chew on in this one.) I can’t wait to read it again.
I, too, liked this book a lot! I did not read it when it came out either, I picked it up after I read The Goldfinch. I think Tartt has a brilliant way of keeping the reader engaged despite the characters (which were absolutely not very likable!) This will be a fantastic book to discuss… I picked up the paperback from the library and plan on settling in with it shortly!
AH, I remember this one! I enjoyed it the first time around, and it will be very interesting to see if my perspectives have changes after many years. Thanks, Carole, perfect diversion.
I remember how much I loved it and how lacking I’ve found other dark academia books, so I’m quite looking forward to this one!
I haven’t read this one, and it sounds intriguing. I just put a hold on it on Libby and it said 18 weeks haha! We’ll see if that holds true – might try the library site as well.
I had to go to Goodreads to see when I read it for the first time, and it was in 2017 — long enough that I don’t remember many details. So I’m excited to reread it with all of you!
18 weeks wait through my library system! Yowza.
