Here come the yellows! A whiskey barrel of yellow (and orange) marigolds from the corner…
Three On Thursday

Here are three random things happening with me right now:
- I finally started planting my container gardens yesterday. I had bought everything nearly two weeks ago and then the weather turned too cold for me to put these little baby annuals out so they’ve been in my mini green house ever since. Yesterday I put them all out on the picnic table and got to work. Some are all done and some are still waiting but I have a plan (and maybe not enough pots?!) for all of it and that feels good.
- It’s really difficult to learn that people have told stories about you that aren’t true. I’ve gotten (somewhat) used to this when it comes to my public employee and elected official roles – someone always has something to say and it isn’t always kind or factual. But when you find out family members have been spinning tales and making up narratives to fit their own agenda it’s pretty hurtful. My new favorite mantra is this: Every accusation is a confession.
- I went to the dentist yesterday for my 6 month check up and cleaning and everything is great. Going to the dentist used to be such a source of anxiety for me and I actually avoided it for years. But I made up my mind to make this a priority and I started going regularly back in 2021. Since then I have kept up with my appointments, flossed every day (I’m not kidding, my streak on this is amazeballs!) and, while I can’t say I look forward to going, it does feel great to go and get good feedback from my hygienist and dentist.
Have a great Thursday!

It has been rainy and below average temps here for some time. Weird weather for us this time of year. When the sun finally comes out, the heat and humidity will let the jungle begin! I love your new mantra. Some people just need to feel superior and need attention so badly that they will do anything to get it. Your mantra covers that so very well. For the last 15 or 20 years, I floss every day. It only takes a couple of minutes, and it is really good, not only for your teeth, but for your general health.
So sorry to hear about the family issues – that just sucks, but I do love your new mantra and it is so true. I floss (maybe not quite as religiously as you), and it has made a world of difference in my check-ups. I still don’t enjoy going to the dentist, but at least my visits are now shorter and a little more pleasant!
I think we have all seen your mantra writ large by some national figures in the last several years. When the truth comes out, opinions change, especially about the big, fat fibbers. (If that last bit sounds childish, it rather fits the actions, no?) Congrats on the dental streak, and tackling those feelings.
Bring on the flowers. If you need more pots, you must have purchased the correct amount of plants… all of them!
I can’t wait to see this year’s containers! I’m always inspired by them & wish I had your green thumb. I like your new mantra, it is so true!! I agree with Becky that some people need to feel superior and have the attention, it just sucks when it is people you thought had your back. Kudos on the flossing … I was inspired by your commitment and started my own floss habit tracker. While I’ve missed a few times, I’m doing great at flossing twice a day – dentist appt next week will see if it pays off!
Planting – and creating fun containers! – is a wonderful antidote to whatever ails you. (And ain’t no problems like family problems when it comes to what ails you. . . ) I’m so proud of you for facing your dental-fears and getting on the flossing bandwagon (it makes such a difference . . . ). Love your new mantra. XO
My heart aches that anyone who would say anything unkind or untrue about you. But your mantra… oh yeah, that is absolutely true! Karma is very good at keeping score as well… just saying.
I am hoping you will give us a peek at all you planted! And GO YOU for your dentist bravery!
Some things just seem to bring out the worst in people; it seems like deaths and surprisingly, births do it in our family. It’s nice to live close to family until it’s not. We have a big family picnic coming up at the end of June and I’m not really looking forward to it, but maybe I’ll be able to stand it for half an hour. Your dentist must love to see you; the one person who doesn’t lie about flossing every day. I hope it’ warm enough to finish planting this weekend!
Oh I want to be you as a flosser! Samesies with the planting though Doug finally got the boxes done today. And #2…your mantra will see you through. xo
Yeah for flossing! I used to be a daily flosser and then just fell off and stopped. I need to get back to it as I go back to the dentist in August after my mammogram.
Sorry family members are being like that. There seem to be some in every family and why, I guess to make themselves look better even if it’s false.
Can’t wait to see your plants. It’s been so cold I’ve been putting off my visit to the plant store.
