I don't spend much time on Substack, but there is one weekly newsletter that I…

The New York Times games are wildly popular and I know that many of you play them daily. There’s Wordle and both the regular crossword and the mini. There’s Connections and Strands and the Spelling Bee. Today, though, I want to recommend their newest daily game, Pips.
It’s a domino puzzle game and there are three levels: easy, medium, and hard. It took me a few days to learn to play it but now I play it every day and it’s my favorite of all of the games. I can generally solve the easy puzzle in less than 30 seconds, the medium one takes me a minute or two, and the hard one . . . well . . . I haven’t successfully solved that one yet but I hope to have the fortitude to do it at some point.
You don’t need a NYTimes subscription to play pips, at least right now, so I recommend giving it a chance/

And speaking of games, here’s Jackie after his soccer game last Friday night. He was chosen as MVP! Atta boy, Jackie!

I tried Pips some time back but couldn’t get into it – I need to give it another try. Meanwhile, Jackie is looking more and more grown up!! How awesome that he was chosen MVP.
Congratulations to Jackie! (THAT CHAIN!!!) Tom loves to play Pips — it’s his favorite. He is a whiz with numbers, so he wishes they were actually HARDER. 😉 We split on the NYT games . . . Tom does the Spelling Bee, Pips, and Strands and I do Wordle, Connections, and both Crosswords (mini and regular) every day. Sometimes we work together, but mostly we have our own little game corners. It’s fun!
Congrats Jackie! That is some bling!
I can get the easy one quickly and sometimes it takes me several starts to get the medium. I’ve had maybe three successes at the hard.
I still do Wordle every day, but some are tougher than others. I haven’t tried Pips, but I’m game (for the easy and medium at least). I would have played soccer if I knew it might get me an award like that!
Congratulations Jackie!
My little great nieces cheer for their local Pee Wee football team, the Vikings.
I love Pips! I broke down and subscribed when they made Letter Boxed and Tiles no longer free. I also do all you mentioned + Sudoku. Keeping my mind young!
Whew, I thought I was alone in being unable to solve those “hard” level pips! But I do enjoy trying them! Congrats to Jackie! Well done!!
I do Wordle, Connections, and Strands every day but hadn’t yet tried Pips because I don’t know how to play dominoes and figured I did to play. But I’ll give it a try now and see how I do. That’s some serious bling Jackie got — way to go!
The hard Pips level varies for me. Sometimes it’s a couple minutes and sometimes, if I’ve started from the completely wrong tile, it stretches into double digits. I also like the sports version of Connections. I do a lot of googling, but I find it makes me more conversant on sports I don’t care about, like football.
I love Pips!! Sometimes, the medium level is more difficult than the hard level — or takes me longer, anyway. My other favorites are Letterboxed & Strands. And the Mini. And Wordle. haha.
