Joining with Kat and friends again this week to discuss what I’m knitting and reading . . .

Thanks to TWO snow days, I finished the front of Dale’s sweater yesterday. I’d show you a picture but it doesn’t look all that different than it did last week, frankly. Normally, I’d plow forward and start on the sleeves but Bang Out a Sweater starts this Friday and this feels like a good stopping point on Dale’s sweater.

I thought I’d knit a gauge swatch for the Waffle Pullover, but when I pulled up the information for the workshop, it said that we’d be knitting our swatch together during the workshop. What’s a knitter to do? Start a new project, of course.

This is the Sophie Scarf, as recently plugged by Kym, and that’s how much I got done during 2 episodes of season 4 of The Morning Show. The yarn is Rowan Felted Tweed and the color is pretty accurate in the photo despite indoor lighting. It’s pretty mindless knitting, with the exception of keeping track of row 8. Anyone have simple hacks on counting rows? I’d love to hear them and see if there’s a better way than how I approach it.

As for reading, I finished Homeseeking on Monday and started Exit Lane yesterday. I have a lot of thoughts (all good) about Homeseeking that I will share in my review. Exit Lane is a sort of retelling of When Harry Met Sally and I made it through about 50% yesterday afternoon. It’s a pretty short book and a pretty easy read so I expect to finish it today or tomorrow.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  1. Love the color for your Sophie Scarf. As I told Kym, it looks great on her, but I know that scarf is not for me at all. I love the way it looks, but I want a big shawl not a tiny scarf! LOL

  2. I’m wondering how long it will take before everyone I know is knitting Sophie Scarves and Waffle Pullovers! I do like that purple a lot.

  3. You could use more snow days to knit your sweaters! (I’m not wishing mountains of snow on anyone.) Your Sophie scarf is lovely so far and the perfect project to knit and complete before your BOAS start. I knit one Sophie scarf and two Sophie shawls and used a clip on stitch marker to help keep track of increases. After you slip the last three stitches of an increase row on RS before you turn it over, place a stitch marker on one of the purl bumps at the very top. Keep knitting until you see four garter ridges between your increase marker and your needle. There might be a better way, but this worked for me.

  4. I just finished a Sophie hood (no pictures yet but I’m wearing it) and first I tried just carrying a strand of waste yarn vertically and bringing it from front to back, or back to front, every time I increased. But that still meant I was always counting rows. So I switched to a chain row counter a friend gave me once, and that turned out to work well for me. (like this one — but surely there’s something less expensive out there?): https://twiceshearedsheep.com/products/green-aventurine-knitting-row-counter

  5. Sounds like a little Sophie Fever is going around!! haha.

Homeseeking sounds interesting… looking forward to hearing about it.

  6. I run a piece of waste yarn up the slipped stitches, flipping it forward or backward after the increase (or decrease) row. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll send you a couple of photos.

  7. After seeing Kym’s Sophie scarf I found an already wound skein of Malabrigo Worsted and cast it on. I only manage 8 rows a day so it will be slow going.

  8. I am also knitting a Sophie scarf thanks to Kym! I was in San Francisco last week and bought a skein of souvenir yarn to make it 🙂
I’m reading everyone’s thoughts on how to keep track of rows. I’ve been mostly counting in my head. Not the most foolproof. Lol

  9. It’s amazing how much knitting you can get done in a snow day! I might have looked to see if I have any yarn that might work for a Sophie Scarf!

  10. What a pretty color for a Sophie Scarf. I do enjoy Rowan Felted Tweed and it comes in lots of beautiful colors.
