I have a theme this week! Spring is still elusive around here but there were…
Weekending, January 30th – February 1st, 2026
Moment of truth: I never left my house all weekend. Yep from the time I got home from work on Thursday until this morning I was inside. It’s dang cold out there, friends, and I want no part of it. And honestly, after being away last weekend, it was nice to be a homebody and I had plenty of things to keep me occupied.
Except, apparently, taking photos, because I only have 2.
I have switched to my studio for my morning time with my journal and laptop and I am loving it. For one thing, it’s warmer up here than it my kitchen table. And also, it’s super cozy and all mine and I like the bird’s eye view of my street from up here. I still do my usual thing: drink a glass of water, write down 5 good things from the day before, think (but not actually execute yet) of something to do with my journal page for the day, and then settle in with my laptop to read emails and blogs and the NYTimes.
Friday was the first zoom for the Bang Out a Sweater project and, while I felt pretty confident in class (Lorilee Beltman is both delightful and talented), that confidence fell apart Sunday afternoon when I got to the short rows portion of the sweater. It took me an hour to knit 5 short rows and I screwed something up somewhere. I set it aside and will look at it with fresh eyes today, hopefully. Realistically, though, if I want to follow the advice of many and knit all the short rows in one session I won’t be able to get to that until Friday.
Our Oscar Quest 2026 has begun and we watched Frankenstein Saturday night and Sinners Sunday night. Both were excellent and I highly recommend them, especially since they are streaming right now and easily available.
And that’s the sum total of the weekend over here. How was yours?

I venture outside daily, but usually it’s just to fill my bird feeders. I’m not sure short trips really count, but they all count when it’s 11 degrees outdoors. I have to go to the grocery store today, so I’m working on motivation and momentum for that. I hope you can figure out your short row issue and get back to banging out your sweater(s).
I don’t often make it for a FULL weekend, but there are a fair number of weekends where I manage a day without stepping outside (like yesterday!)… often in my PJs all day, too.
I hope you’re able to get back on track with your sweater!
It’s been a while since I’ve seen all the Best Picture nominees & it seems like a good year… so far, we’ve seen Hamnet and Train Dreams. And, related, Song Sung Blue, for which Kate Hudson was nominated in the Best Actress category (also, set in Milwaukee, just kinda had to).
I am on my second go-round with this sweater and I had to change how the short rows were knit because THEY MADE ME INSANE. I ended up doing the short rows in Stockinette instead of trying to do them in pattern and with German short rows. It looks a little–off–but my hair will cover it all. Good luck with the sweater! It’s so much more fun once you divide and get the arms off the needle!
I was in NYC for VogueKnitting Live, and I didn’t leave the building (Marriott Marquis, Times Square) from Wednesday night til Sunday afternoon. It was very cold out. Today I’m home and stayed in jammies all day, hanging out with the cats. Everyone is happy.
Short rows…sometimes I skip them because I don’t need a lot of room. I think in straight lines! But yes, do them all at once.
My “outdoor” treks are limited to the few brief moments for Frankie to do his business and in this cold he is FAST! No dawdling at all, lol. This mornings 17 felt downright balmy!
With as cold as it’s been lately, I wouldn’t leave the house, either, if I didn’t have to take the dog out (one benefit of having cats!), so no judgment from me whatsoever! Your studio looks like a great place to start the day and think some deep thoughts. Best of luck with working out those short rows!
It is so dang cold . . . and has been so dang cold for so dang long now that I can’t remember what “warm” even feels like. (Gripe much?) I think your studio is the perfect place to begin your days, Carole. Who can beat cozy and warm — and having that space of your own! XO
