It’s time to announce our next Read With Us selection, and I’m particularly excited about…
Unraveled, October 21st
Joining with Kat and friends today to talk about knitting and reading.

This is the current state of the Musselburgh Hat I started with the Cider Moon Farm yarn after I frogged the socks because the yarn wasn’t to my liking for the pattern. I deliberately got it to the round and round stage before I left on my trip so that I would have plenty of mindless knitting to work on while traveling.

While this isn’t technically unraveled, you may notice a lack of knitting needle. I made it with my knitting in tact from Boston to Istanbul, from Istanbul to Athens, and from Athens back to Istanbul. But when I went through security to go from Istanbul back to Boston, an overjealous (in my opinion) security agent took my knitting needles. Both the 16 inch one that the stitches were on and the 32 inch one I had with me as a spare. They were Addi turbos. IYKYK.
The truly ironic thing is that I barely knit on this at all while on my trip but was really looking forward to knitting and watching movies on the 10 hour flight from Istanbul to Boston. The irony. It burns.

As for reading, I am currently loving Whale Harbor by Mary Beth Keane. I have an ARC but it was published yesterday so it should be readily available for borrowing from the library. I’m only about 1/3 of the way through it but at this point I confidently recommend it.
What are you knitting and reading this week?

I think that yarn will look great as a Musselburgh once you get some more needles. Darn that security agent! I could have happily read more about the family in Whale Harbor even after the book ended.
Oh man. The sting of those confiscated needles… it burns! I hope that you get replacement needles inserted and continue on your way with your Musselburgh! Thanks for the reminder to get on the library waitlist for that new book!
The decision to confiscate things seems completely arbitrary to me. Do they confiscate pencils and pens? I could put someone’s eye out or jam either of those into someone’s neck. Just saying! I’m sorry that happened to you, Carole. I am looking forward to seeing progress on your hat. I think that yarn will be lovely for a hat. Whale Harbor is going onto my wait list.
