This Is Halloween

Our Halloween party Saturday night was a blast! We had 24 friends join us for a fun evening of drinks, food, and socializing.

We decorated the house with creepy spiders and cobwebs and little touches, like masks and witch hats on various photos hanging on the walls.

Dale found this old mirror and painted a ghost on it and that became the center focus of our living room mantel. We covered the furniture with old sheets and table clothes to create a haunted house effect. Please notice the cat asleep on the couch. Heh.

Everyone came in costume and we awarded prizes. Funniest went to Bob and Tina, who came dressed as a woman and a man, respectively. Best overall went to Ken and Leslie, who came dressed as a Confederate soldier and Southern belle, and Most Original went to Amy and Bob who came as victims of Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds.

Dale and I went as a Goat Man and a harvest witch called Esmeralda. The characters come from a story Dale has told to his Boy Scout troop for years and if his book ever gets published you’ll be able to read it for yourselves. Ahem.

The food was really great and our guests helped out by bringing things to add to the table. We had pitchers of margaritas (I ended up calling them Zombieritas) and wine and beer and everyone had a great time making merry!

I made cupcakes for dessert – pumpkin spice with cream cheese.

And chocolate with meringue ghosts.

It was great to just hang out and talk and laugh and have fun.  Several guests asked if we would do this again next year and honestly, how could I resist?

  1. What a great time! I love your autumny crown, and Dale just looks too funny! And of course the cupcakes… Thanks for sharing the pictures and bringing a big smile to my morning. 🙂

  2. Fantastic! You certainly know how to party! Goat Man and Esmeralda: a children’s story? Hmmm, the way Goat Man holding Esmeralda has me wondering….

  3. It was definitely a fun evening! You and Dale certainly go above and beyond to make your guests feel welcome … so of course we want you to do it again next year 🙂 Tradition, ahhhhh!

  4. You throw a good party and it sounds like such fun!! Your food looks yummy, too and Zomberita’s would fit right in. It would be fun to be with you. If only we didn’t have 3000 miles to cross!

  5. That sounds like so much fun. I love your decorations! Every year I swear I’ll decorate better next year but I still haven’t gotten there.

  6. Fun! My husband’s not allowed to cross-dress anymore. One year he went as a woman, mini-skirt and fishnet stockings, the whole 9 yards, and he had TOO MUCH FUN. I had to be beside him every minute! It didn’t help that he was giving lessons on the proper way to consume jello shots…

  7. THE GOATMAN LIVES!!!! hahahahahaha
    And Esmeralda looked beautiful!

Everything looked fab in your pics! We had a good time at ours, too, but I didn’t think to take photos of the house decor….oh well!

  8. Sounds like it was a wonderful party. I miss you guys very much!! Will you ever make it up to Keene, NH???
