Ten On Tuesday

I don’t often pick music related topics for Ten On Tuesday but this week I was inspired by a friend’s status update on Facebook and that led me to . . . 10 Favorite One Hit Wonders.

  1. Montego Bay by Bobby Bloom. Makes me think of our Cape Cod vacation.
  2. Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes by Edison Lighthouse. Another peppy little tune and Dale should explain (in the comments, I hope) about his misheard song lyrics from this one.
  3. Tired of Toein’ the Line by Rocky Burnette. I like this one but Dale absolutely loves it.
  4. Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum. I’ve loved this song since I was a kid. Goin’ up to the spirit in the sky, that’s where I’m gonna go when I die . . .
  5. O-0-h Child by the Five Stairsteps. Things are gonna get easier.
  6. Start the Commotion by the Wise Guys. Fire it up, baby.
  7. Rose Garden by Lynn Anderson. I had a cousin named Lynn Anderson and when I was a kid I really believed she had a hit with this song.
  8. Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Deep Blue Sound. Anyone else remember this one?
  9. Breathless by the Corrs. Let us not forget, I fell in love in the 90s.
  10. Mambo #5 by Lou Bega. So fun for dancing.

The cheese factor is pretty high on some of these but nevertheless, I love me a one hit wonder!

  1. Loved Patrick Swayze’s She’s Like the Wind. I think it was more about Patrick Swayze than the song….

  2. R wanted me to put Mambo #5 on my list (it’s the only song we know of that has the name ‘Jessica’ in it – The Allman Brothers song ‘Jessica’ doesn’t have any words so it doesn’t count) but I’m soooo sick of hearing it I just couldn’t do it! lol

Great list! I can’t believe we didn’t pick any of the same songs! ;o)

  3. You know that saying, “If you can’t say anything good, don’t say anything………?!?”

  4. OMG…The Five Stairsteps and Montego Bay! Yup, love those! And Lynn Anderson is one of those folks who were Top 40 one-hit wonders but had a very long career in country music, so I didn’t include her on my list. Great list!!

  5. Mambo #5 – excellent for riding the indoor bike! What a fun little peek into your iPod or memories.

  6. I love Breathless. Great list. I feel like my brain is too fried for lists but now that i’m looking at them I totally think that I could’ve done it.

  7. per Carole’s request on #2…a “handle” is a name, right, like in cowboy movies? Well I thought it was romantic for the singer to sing “there’s someting about her handle and mine”…you know like when someone says here comes Carole and Dale…her handle and mine, it sounded good to me! OK, OK, Carole knows lyrics better than me and she pointed out that the line is “there’s something about her hand holding mine.” Upon closer review I discovered she was absolutely correct!
(I still sing it the wrong way cause I like my version better!)

  8. I LOVE Breakfast at Tiffany’s! It’s number one on my iPod playlist, and the first song I ever sang for karaoke!

  9. Like all the songs you picked…and I love Dale’s explanation. I had a friend named Rosemary when that song was popular – and her “true love” sang it all the time!!!

  10. I think I only recognize about half of those. But I will confess to be horrible with associating song titles with their tunes.

That burrito looks delish! I may now know what we’ll have for dinner 🙂
