My Chapstick Challenge

March 11, 2013 By Carole

For the last several Mondays our dear Kym has been talking about Chapstick. And Carmex. And Burt’s Bees and all manner of other lip care products. I read her posts with interest each week because I adore Kym and love to read anything she writes. The posts really didn’t have much to do with my life, though, because I am a Blistex girl.

Always have been. Always will be.

Errrrr.

Maybe not.

Last Friday I fell down hard in the lip care aisle of my local CVS. There was all those goodies that Kym had been talking about and it just sort of jumped into my basket. Since purchasing those products I’ve been experimenting and I must admit that the Carmex is pretty good stuff. It’s smooth and it smells good in a comforting kind of way. The Burt’s Bees that I picked up is tinted and that’s kind of cool because I don’t wear lipstick unless it’s night time and I’m going out. A little color on my lips in the daytime isn’t a bad thing and with this product I get some moisturizing benefits, too. And the eos spheres. Oh. The eos spheres are positively yummy. I bought honeysuckle and tangerine because that was all they had and boy is that stuff good. It’s really smooth and it smells really delicious and it’s just, well, cool. So now the Carmex is on my night stand and the eos spheres are in my purse, as is the Burt’s Bees. I just might be a convert to some of these newfangled lip products.

Except.

You see what’s also in that photo, right? My beloved Blistex.

What fun! I’ve discovered that I like a bunch of these products — and now they’re kind of everywhere in my house and in my bag and at my office. And I’m okay with that. (Variety is the spice of life!)

I recently tried the Burt’s Bees tinted products, and am a convert. Nothing tops my Clinique Black Honey, but this stuff is pretty darn good.

I hear ya! I’m a diehard Blistex lip ointment girl myself. I try new things and yet I just keep going back to my blistex. The only other thing I’ve bought twice is the Bonne Bell Dr Pepper flavored lip balm 🙂

I have a variety of lip balms and lipsticks around my house … my current favorite is the sugar lip treatment from Sephora. I just got a mini pack for my birthday and the tinted one is very nice!

For some reason I’ve always disliked Blistex- used it in college, but love my tinted Burt’s Bees in Dahlia and Clinique Black Honey. They both are my go to products found in my purse and car. My daughter adores Eos spheres. Fun shape and flavors.

I fell for several too when Kym posted about them. All except Burts which is bad, bad for we GF people. I’m amazed at how many years Blistex has been around and how popular it still is!

I need to try some eos spheres and Carmex after reading
your blog. I like Burt’s Bees but I have discovered one very
important thing. I need to have these products all over the
house and several in my purse and car because when I need one, I can never find one and then I have problems with the dryness or chapping!!! Thanks for writting this blog. Always good
to read what works for other people!!

I love the Eos. The spheres are also just so easy to hold in the hand and the caps are large enough that I don’t feel like I am constantly in danger of dropping them.

I haven’t tried Carmex in years, but I’m not a super fan of needing to use a brush (never on hand) or my fingers for application. I always get the stuff then under my nails where it takes forever to wash out.

It’s always a good thing to break out of your comfort zone! I am blessed with several friends who make soaps, lotions, and lip balm. I have an orange flavored one that’s positively yummy!

I have carmex in my desk drawer, chapstick in my car and pockets, and good ‘ol vaseline on my night stand. I follow the KISS system. Keep It Simple, Stupid. 🙂

This is a subject I have researched a great deal, and in the last several years I’ve been all about the most healthful products that still provide great moisture while not being sticky and also have a pleasant tint. I have to tell you my absolute favorite find, Colorganics Berry Lip Tint. It’s so lovely I’ve had women ask me what I am wearing and write it down. You might have to order it or go to either a natural foods market or vitamin store. UPC code is 698861000460 if you want to order it. It’s around $6 and comes in other colors too. Are we doing bronzers next?!

After scoring the Clinique Black Honey in the lastest give-away, I’m not getting rid of that anytime soon, but I know how fickle Clinique is (I’ll never forgive them for taking away my eyebrow pencil stick with the brush on the other end or the tinted moisturizer!), but I have used Herpecin (a medicated stick that fights cold sores, in advance as well as treating them when you get the blasted things) for years now, rain/shine, sun/wind, summer/winter. But. Now. Must.Try.Burt’s.Bees. Tinted? Really? wow…..

My hubby is a Blistex boy. Not ever gonna change him. I do love Burts Bees. I like the color factor myself because I seldom wear lipstick in the daytime either.

We go with the regular Burts Bees (nontinted) lip balms in this house, but you are making those EOS ones sound good. And before BB, I was a Blistek girl, so I completely trust your recommendations.

I saw eos at Costco yesterday. didn’t investigate thoroughly, but suspect it’s a “variety pack”. (the only other lip product they had was chapstick. I’m not sure what I think about their variety 🙂 and now that you and Kym have given it a thumbs up, I think I want to try, too. I’ll report back!

My lip treat of choice is made by a small mom & pop and I love it. All natural and super smooth on my lips. I have them stashed all over the place. But I’ve been using EOS lately too. I tried it because I was buying it die D and “what the heck” I’ll try it. I really like the scents and flavors but best of all I can find them easier in my huge bag.

I like the cocoa one here: http://store.swbasicsofbk.com/products/vegan-lip-balms

They make one with beeswax too but I haven’t tried it. I also confess to using lanolin (leftovers from nursing Ellie) as a lip balm – it was my absolute favorite. I feel silly ordering it now that my kid is 5 tho.

I have lipbalm nearby at all times too. My absolute favorite is the Clinique SuperBalm. It is pricy but lasts for almost a whole year! Like Ruth who posted above, I have it in the Black Honey color so it’s the best of both worlds – super moisturizing with a little tint. (I like the Black Honey lipstick too.) I really like the Gap lipbalms too. I think $2 at the counter at the Gap. I usually get Pomegranate or Passionfruit. Those are the ones I have stashed in my night stand, my gym bag, my scrapbooking tote, a drawer in the kitchen…
