It’s no secret that I enjoy a cocktail. Or three. Mostly I stick with Dirty Grey Goose Martinis but now and again I like to break out of my rut and while Dale and I were on vacation I enjoyed a delicious bourbon cocktail at The Lanes. It was so good that I made the bartender show me how to make it so that I could do it myself when we got home.
And I did. And now you can, too – here’s what you will need.
3-4 basil leaves
2 oz bourbon
Squeeze the grapefruit into a cocktail shaker. Add the basil leaves and muddle until the leaves are bruised and fragrant. Add agave nectar to taste – a healthy squirt should be enough. Add 2 oz bourbon (or maybe a leetle bit more) and ice and shake. Pour into a martini glass and garnish with a sprig of basil.
Not much of a bourbon drinking. I wonder how this would taste with rye? Oh never mind, I’m not going to mess with a good rye. I’ll have you make one for me next time you come to Utah!
If you say so! I’ll pick up a grapefruit when I shop. Actually sounds delicious. Or…I could get what I need and have one during the game tonight!
I have a whole bunch of basil. Thank you for giving me another idea of what to use it for. Yummmm……
I love a good cocktail, especially one with grapefruit – thanks for sharing!

That DOES sound good. How much juice comes from the grapefruit, do you think? I have some unsweetened grapefruit juice as well as bourbon on hand. And really a lot of basil. But no agave nectar.
I won’t even say it lol. The two B’s make me wish I were drinking again. Maybe one with dinner!
Sounds divine. I’ll have to try this for my SIL. She loves her some mint julep, so I think this will certainly be right up her alley!

You had me at “grapefruit.”
