Three On Thursday

You might know that I’m a bit of a . . . stickler . . . when it comes to rules. Not all rules but definitely my rules. Like, my rule about not eating popcorn at the movies until the actual movie starts. Or my rule about straightening the couch cushions and plumping the pillows each night before I go to bed. There are others that are seemingly arbitrary but they matter to me. And here’s one that’s bugging me right now:

Posts and lists and videos about the Best of 2018.

You know why it bugs me? Because 2018 isn’t over yet. Today is December 13th and we’ve got more than two full weeks left in 2018 and what if we read the best book ever on December 28th? Or what if we take a photo on December 25th and it gets more likes on Instagram than any photo we’ve taken all year? So, all you 2018 lists just hold your horses and wait until January 1st.

Now. That being said, I am looking ahead to 2019 and making some plans. And you can probably guess, I’m sharing 3 with you today.

  1. I am setting my Reading Challenge for 2019 at 75 books. This is the same number I have done for the past 2 years and it works well for me. It allows me to read some long books and it’s also a number I hit around the end of November or early December. Remember that post I wrote about attainable goals? This is exactly what I was referring to.
  2. Dale and I will be doing a list of 19 in 2019 just as we did 18 in 2018. Our list this year inspired us and pushed us and helped us set some goals, too. There are things we put on our list we didn’t do that we intentionally dropped and there are things that we didn’t get to yet but there are lots of things we did accomplish and . . . well now I’m thinking that this 18 in 2018 thing deserves a post of it’s own but just know that there will be a list in 2019 too.
  3. I have chosen my One Little Word for 2019. I’ll share it soon (maybe even on January 1st) but it’s a good one and the time is right for me to use it. I’m not sure if I’m going to sign up for the class again as I haven’t really followed the class at all this year but there is a pretty cool journal available and I may get that and follow my own cues. Either way, I have found that choosing a word for the year really helps me focus on what matters and what my intentions are and I like it.

That’s all I’ve got so far for the year ahead. Let’s hope it’s a good one!

If you wrote a post for today please share your link below. Thanks for playing along!

  1. Good for you, Carole! It’s always best to do it YOUR WAY!!! XOXO
(I can’t wait to hear your word for 2019.)
    XO

  2. I also have ‘rules’ although I call them preferences which seems a little less rigid. It’s all in the marketing.

  3. I saw a Best Books list in early November. I guess the lesson is don’t publish your book in December or you run the risk of it being overlooked.

  4. I’m the same way about things and it drives me NUTS that people do Best Of 2018 before 2019 actually gets here! Around 2002, some magazine declared Beyonce the Most Beautiful Woman of This Millennium, and that really sent me over the edge!

  5. I think this is a very good thing. Steve and I are doing a bit of a different take on our 19 in 2019 list…and I am pondering a word.

As for me, I am a team Rules Schmules kind of girl.

  6. I like my rules, but I tend to ignore other people’s rules. That popcorn rule is interesting, Carole. I bet there is a back story to that one. I did not do a word this year, and I missed it, so I am thinking about one for this year. 19 goals is just too much for me, but I admire your tenacity, and I admire that you do it as a couple. I don’t think my husband and I could agree on 19 goals!

  7. I’m completely with you on the list thing! I’m looking forward to seeing what your word is, contemplating mine and slowly putting together a 19 for 19 list as it’s a big year for me!

  8. I look forward to your lists and your word. I also set a reading goal that’s similar to the year before and agree with you on all points of why do it that way. It will likely be my only goal for the year (written goal). I made a list of 18 for 2018 and did ONE THING on my list. So, no more lists for me.

  9. I feel the exact same way about the Best of lists. What if I won the lottery? What if I discovered I was going to be a grandma for the first time? What if Chris Hemsworth showed up on my doorstep? Anything is possible!

  10. I thinking I’m keeping my word from last year since I didn’t do a darn thing with it. Got distracted by other stuff (new great niece probably). I will admit to being one who jumped the gun on the Instagram year of color thing. I forgot all about it and when I saw it I did it right away. I’ve been posting every day because of an advent yarn thing I’m doing and I’m kind of glad I did it before it pulled in 25 days of yarn I won’t be knitting till next year. I like that making my own rules thing, I need to do that more.

I need to go check my reading challenge.

  11. Go Carole Go! and I’m totally with you on the 2018 lookbacks … before December is even half over! can’t wait for your word (I might even choose one myself … still thinking!)

  12. It is hard not to rush ahead isn’t it? I think I have my word but I won’t do the class next year because I barely kept up this year. I want to make it a part of my journaling so it will be more intentional.

  13. I’m still working on Day 1…from waaaay back! Words; things to do…some, end because truly the calendar flips…others, most likely, I lose interest – or am easily wooed – and some persist, staying in the forefront or slipping in/out. They keep my life interesting. Right now, I’m looking for my 2019 word and thinking I may revisit some previous ones.
    Look forward to your reveal!
    Cheers~

  14. I’m inspired to pick 19 things in 2019. Now that we’ve bought a house hopefully I’ll get settled into a good routine of reading, cooking, gardening, sewing, etc.
