Weekending

Can I tell you a secret? (realizing that it’s probably not a secret and it definitely won’t be a secret once I tell you) I never left the house all weekend and it was fabulous.

I did some errands on Friday including a visit with the head of the retirement board for my county (I have a 6 year plan, friends) and a trip to the grocery store where I laid in supplies for several days. I was home by 2pm on Friday and other than going out in the yard for some fresh air I was able to just.stay.home.

It was heavenly.

I still did stuff, of course. I finished a pair of socks. I finished 2 books. I did yoga every day. I watched Oscar nominated movies. I entertained friends and made a fabulous boeuf bourguignon. I puttered and did some journaling and deep thinking.

Mostly, though, I laid in a good bit of time to myself which I know I will have to draw on in the days to come because this coming weekend I am going to a really big municipal government conference. And it will be people-y. So people-y.

Isn’t it amazing when you reach the point where you know what you need and you do it? I hope your weekend was just what you needed, too.

  1. Sometimes the stars align for us. Here’s hoping the people-y time is filled with good ones.

  2. I did mostly the same thing — I left the house a few times for things that had to get done, but I spent most of the past three days inside, and honestly that’s what I’d like to do most days during the winter. I hope the snacks were yummy, the books were good, and the socks fit perfectly. Sending you strength for the upcoming people-ing!

  3. That is a true sign of being a grown-up — knowing what you need and doing it! Congratulations and I’m glad that being a grown-up was also fun and cozy!

  4. Oh, I love time at home! Being retired, I often will not even go to the store for much needed groceries, but will make grilled cheese or beans for meals. Anything to stay home!
Hope your meeting will be a calm, worth while one.

  5. Wonderful – absolutely the best! I’mm curious, what yoga practice are you doing? Something on-line? Or just doing yoga on your own? I really NEED and WANT to get back into yoga (I stopped going to the classes I was attending – the teacher got a little too new-agey and wanted us to go to lectures, etc.).

  6. I’m so glad you had just the kind of weekend you needed! Smart thing, laying in reserves for the time to come. I hope your week continues to be just what you need.

  7. What a fabulous weekend. Kudos to you for knowing what you need and then making it happen. Self-care is sometimes the most difficult. The weather pretty much kept us at home this past weekend. Temps in the single digits with wind. Brr. Your home looks so cozy and you filled the weekend with some wonderful activities.

  8. That sounds divine! Today will be one of those days-not the whole weekend, but I’m happy for the one day!

  9. After all you’ve been through, all the holiday hoopla, it’s wonderful you had the time to do as you wish and you knew just what to do. Rest, recover, refresh…heaven!xo
