Three On Thursday

My thoughts are scattered these days, friends. Today I am sharing 3 sort of random things that are on my mind.

Sick of: certain words and phrases. Repeat them with me, won’t you? Quarantine. Unprecedented. An abundance of caution. At this time. Social distancing. I can’t wait until these phrases are in our past and not mentioned every damn day.

Committing to: uploading my photos to flickr more frequently. I’m good about taking photos every day. I’m even (mostly) good about prepping them (I use instagram a lot for that and then remove them before anyone sees them) but I’m awful about getting them on flickr. And I know, I know, no one uses flickr anymore, but for me it’s the best tool for creating the mosaic I share here every month. On Tuesday I had to add the entire month of April and it was a pain in the ass so I’m going to really try to do this at least weekly.

Grateful for: the way the natural world continues despite the pandemic. Hummingbirds come back, birds lay their eggs, bulbs grow and bloom, perennials push up through the ground, it all just . . . happens . . . as if nothing has changed.

Those are my Thursday things this week.

  1. Carole, isn’t there some way to have your photos uploaded to flickr automatically? I haven’t checked my flickr account recently but I’m sure mine used to upload automatically. You are such a good photographer! I was looking at the photos on your previous post. They are so simple yet beautiful. You have inspired me to try to work on my photography skills.

  2. I’m also tired of new normal, closely monitoring, and uncertain times. Oh, and “we’re all in this together” in every email from every company I’ve done business with. These are all true words and phrases, but also all overused.

  3. If you’re using IG to edit your photos, have you heard of the photo editing app Snap Seed? I learned about it from a class I took with Gale Zucker a couple of years ago, and it’s been a huge help. It’s a more robust editing tool than the phone or even the IG filters and effects, and it’s been great when it’s gloomy outside and my photos are all turning out dark.

  4. I’m laughing because one of my “pandemic projects” is Photo Organization. It’s on my to-do list every damn day . . . because I haven’t done it any damn day. So you GO with that flickr-ing! XO

    (And ugh. Those words.)

  5. I’m so happy you mentioned the photo organizing because it has been on my mind and there are some good ideas here.

  6. I’ve been looking for a photo tool…and since I don’t mind anything outdated, I’ll check out Flickr! Your entry there made me snicker 🙂
I’m so impressed at how regularly you organize your photo files. I’m getting there–but slooooowly. I just started organizing the last 9 YEARS. Sigh. I’m learning my lesson.

  7. Carole, I watched a talk from a photo organizer/cataloguer the other day, as I am trying to wrap my head around making a complete digital file of multiple generations of photos. He recommended flickr as a great storage option for the complete digital files, as it is reasonably priced, unlimited storage, doesn’t compress the photo file like Google Photos, and is viewable by most other photo software and apps.

  8. I’m also grateful for the way nature continues despite it all. Our hummingbirds aren’t back yet, but thanks for giving me hope that they will be soon! Off to fill their feeders now!

  9. I’m with you on the words, and yes, there’s no stopping nature. Good thing or bad, I’m not sure, but the cardinals that have been in our yard for the last several months bring me endless amounts of joy. We’ve had hummingbirds in the past, and I also hope they appear again.
