Three On Thursday

June 18, 2020 By Carole

This week I have 3 random things yet again. Random is how I roll these days, apparently. Let’s go!

  1. I recently found the website Good Black News. I’m clearly late to the party as it’s been around for 10 years, but nevertheless I’m really glad to be reading it now. It’s run completely by volunteers, and the purpose is to focus on positive news and stories of interest about black people all over the world. I was directed to the site when I read this editorial that a friend shared on Facebook and I’ve been reading and exploring ever since.
  2. If you aren’t already listening to Brené Brown’s podcast, Unlocking Us, I urge you to start. It’s described by Brown as follows: Conversations that unlock the deeply human part of who we are, so that we can live, love, parent, and lead with more courage and heart. Each week I have learned something new, sometimes about someone else and always about myself, I have laughed and cried and I truly look forward to it and find myself hanging on every word. Give it a try.
  3. Speaking of podcasts . . . the Happier podcast, which is co-hosted by sisters Gretchen Rubin and Liz Craft, has a book club and on July 8th they will be discussing The Dutch House by Ann Patchett. I listened to this book last year (it’s narrated by Tom Hanks and he’s wonderful) and I know many of you have also read it. I’m looking forward to hearing what Ann Patchett has to say about the book and I thought you might want to listen in as well and you’ve still got time to read the book if you haven’t already.

And that’s it for me this Thursday. If you wrote a post to share this week please include your link below. Thanks for joining me!

Thanks for Good Black News and the Dutch House discussion. I’ve already read an editorial and a story about John Lewis’ documentary screening in Tulsa, so this will be informative and educational for me. I’m also looking forward to hearing from Ann Patchett and maybe I’ll re-listen to the book. Thanks, Carole!
