Three On Thursday

This week I’m sharing three things I’m thankful for right now. I hope it will inspire you to consider the good things you have in your life, too.

  1. The big exciting news I have to tell you is that Dale and I went to Boston on Tuesday for x-rays on his leg and . . . drumroll . . . his bones have grown back together! He is, as the doctor said, out of the woods in terms of infection and his leg is healed to the point that we don’t have to go back again. Woot! He’s still dealing with swelling and some pain, his physical therapy will continue for the foreseeable future but his leg is not broken anymore. And as of last week he could actually get a real shoe on that foot. I’m so happy that he’s made this progress, and within a normal time frame, too.
  2. I’m thankful for firewood. We had 2 cords delivered recently with 2 more on the way and that should be enough for the winter. For the first time ever I actually helped Dale stack it! We loaded the garden cart together and brought it up to the deck and set up the rack and filled it up. This rack doesn’t hold a ton of wood but it’s our . . . staging area . . . for the wood we bring into the house. Setting this up meant moving the deck furniture around a bit but we’ve come up with a configuration that might actually allow us to keep a couple of the couches up there through the winter. While I can’t say it was fun to stack firewood I can say that it felt good to help Dale with this task. He always says something about how a man who stacks his own firewood gets warmed twice and for the first time ever it made sense!
  3. I’m thankful for my gratitude journal. This may seem redundant but hear me out! In August of 2019 I started writing 5 things I’m thankful for in a journal every morning while my coffee brews. This lists are short and quick and now that I’ve been writing them for ever a year I’m going back to see what I wrote each day. As in, today when I write my list I will also go back and read what I wrote on October 8, 2019. It’s been really cool to see what was going on and remember certain situations. I’m thankful for this practice and for the record keeping it has provided.

And that’s my list of thankful things for this Thursday. If you wrote a post for today please add your link below.

  1. Hooray for Dale’s healed leg! That is the best news! My grandfather had a similar saying about wood warming twice and it is certainly true. I have never been able to keep a gratitude journal for more than a few days, but your practice of looking back for a year lends an interesting aspect to it (and might help keep me at it for a year).

  2. Excellent news about Dale! That’s worth celebrating. I used to help with the wood stacking as a kid. It’s hard work, but satisfying knowing you’re ready to stay warm in the winter.

  3. I am so happy to hear about Dale’s leg! That is THE BEST news — and a testament to your loving care, Dale’s hard work, and the power of our bodies to heal. XOXO
(And good for you on the wood-stacking! THAT is a big chore.)

  4. Glad to hear Dale’s leg is healed! I do not do a gratitude journal, but I do complete a Mom’s line-a-day 5-year journal. It is set up so that date for the whole five years is displayed on one page, and I write down things we did or funny things she said. I guess in a way it is a gratitude journal for special moments with my daughter. But I love reading the memories for the previous years each night. It’s interesting to see how she’s grown and changed, and I’ve also noticed we have really seasonal (and unintentional) habits – sometimes I fill out the date only to find out we did the exact same thing 2 years ago! I think they make a non-mom version, too!

  5. We are cheering for Dale’s progress as well! Wooo Hoooooo! That is such GREAT news! 🙂

I love your gratitude practice… and looking back? Why that just gives you more to be grateful for! XO

  6. Most excellent news about Dale’s leg! And so nice that you don’t have to anticipate traveling back to the big city until you are ready to do so. I don’t have a gratitude journal, but I do try to be thankful in all things, right after I curse about them- LOL. Have a wonderful Thursday, Carole.

  7. Such great news Carole! And that you got to experience the “warmed twice” gig. Once will be enough though right? 🙂

  8. Great news about Dale’s leg. I’m sure its a relief not to have to worry about that. I have never been able to keep up any kind of journal. I bought two year’s of the Strichmich journal and never used either one. I keep wanting to start but I just never keep it up. I have been keeping up with my calm app and doing a bit of meditation and breathing every day.

  9. So glad to read of Dale’s progress and his good report. What an ordeal. Poor guy!!! I have a gratitude journal I work on occasionally but not nearly often enough. Thanks for the inspiration to pick it up again.

  10. Such good news for Dale (and you!)! Knowing you’ve healed and your body has done as it should is such a great feeling. I’m sure he loves being able to do for himself more than you know.

  11. Fantastic news to hear that Dale has no more broken bones. What a storm the 2 of you have weathered.
