My recommendation this week is to just do the thing. Whatever it is that’s been on your mind, something you’re considering and maybe researching, something that has just landed on your radar, something that will make your life bigger or bolder. Do it.

I’m saying this so that you will join me in solidarity because Dale and I did a big, bold thing this weekend. We bought a new camper!

This was slightly spontaneous but also something we’ve been talking about since last year. We always knew the camper we bought in 2022 wasn’t one we would keep for a long time. It’s small and, when it comes to quality, very entry level. We felt comfortable with that purchase since we weren’t sure how committed we might be to camping so in terms of both wear and tear on the unit and a financial investment it felt right.

Four years later, though, we are ready for something nicer. A little bigger (wider, really) and a little higher end when it comes to the features. We know the things that are both essential and non-essential at this point.

So, while we weren’t really looking when we went to the Camping & RV Show this weekend, we couldn’t pass up what felt like the perfect camper for us. It’s only a foot longer than what we have but it has a slide out that makes a world of difference. It has a bathroom that’s bigger (with a porcelain toilet!) and a shower that won’t make Dale feel like he’s Buddy the Elf every time he’s in there. There’s theater seating and lots of storage, a high top table that pulls out from the counter, drop down windows, a regular queen bed (not a queen short like a lot of campers have) and even a small outdoor kitchen.

And we did it. We bought the floor model. And, because we did this at the camping show we went and got beers and sat in our new camper and drank them.

And now I can’t wait for camping season!

  1. Congratulations! It’s too bad that it’s a little too cold to use it, but I’m sure you’ll be out camping early in the spring. I hope those rowdy beer drinkers didn’t spill anything in your new camper!

  2. How cool is this?! Congratulations to the both of you. It seems that you made a reasonable, well considered choice, and I am glad the opportunity to do it came along. You will obviously enjoy it immensely, and I hope you give us a little tour of it sometime. It is always wise to spend your money on your passions, and you and Dale obviously love camping, or is it glamping at this point?

  3. How exciting!!! I’m thrilled for you and Dale. I know you will enjoy your new camper so much. Now, if only the snow would disappear and the temps warm up a bit…they will eventually. Meanwhile, camping dreaming is always fun!

  4. Congratulations on the new camper!
The first time I went camping was back in 1978 in a tent with three kids under 5yrs old and it rained.
Never Never Never again! And I haven’t…..
But my kids and grandchildren go all the time with groups of friends and they have a blast. When they are local, me and Dan will go visit and that’s enough to remind me that it’s not for me.

    Enjoy!

  6. Oh what fun, Congratulations! We are currently camping in Palm Desert, CA for 2 months in a motorhome. It was a big reach for us but we’ve never regretted it. Have fun when the weather changes.
