Three On Thursday

Feeling random but these 3 things are also somewhat connected.

  1. Tomorrow is the first day of spring! That means today is the last day of winter and we made it through. We made it through the dark day, the cold nights, and the storms. My approach to winter this year was a reminder to myself every day that this (the cold, the dark, the wind, the snow, the ice) too, is living. That miserable weather doesn’t have to mean I’m miserable, too. That every day should be celebrated as a day to be alive, even in my least favorite season. That phrase served me well and I have a new one for spring that I will be sharing with you next week.
  2. This Sunday is our Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast. Dale and I are Co Chairs of the event this year for the first time and I’m a little nervous and just hoping we remembered everything. I have a lot of faith in our club members to show up and do the work that needs to be done. I also have a lot of faith in my community to show up and eat pancakes! The weather is looking perfect for the day: cloudy and cool. We don’t want the first warm, sunny Sunday to be on Pancake Breakfast day because people will still home and do yardwork instead!
  3. And speaking of Kiwanis, we met last night instead of our usual Thursday night due to a scheduling conflict at the restaurant. Normally we would have just canceled the meeting but since it’s right before the Pancake Breakfast we needed to have it to finalize volunteer assignments and other details. As a result, though, I’m utterly confused about what day today is. Last night I kept thinking it was Thursday (16 years of Thursday night meetings will do that to you) and today when I realized I had to get up and go to work I was a little fussy about it.

Have a great Thursday!

  1. Congratulations on living through winter! Today is Thursday (thus three things) but you don’t have to go work tomorrow. Enjoy!

  2. Ah, yes, Carole, we made it! My mantra this winter was the German/Scandinavian saying that ” there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing”. It worked in a way. I beefed up my wool wardrobe for those arctic spells, and I certainly wasn’t happy about them, but I felt warmer and better prepared. Since I retired, I lose track of which day it is more often than I like. When your days look very much the same, there are less day specific events to help your brain remember what day it is! I am sure your pancake breakfast will be a great success. You are organized, a leader, and you can boss Dale around easily – LOL.

  3. A pancake breakfast sounds wonderful! I may make pancakes on Sunday to be with you in spirit!! Like Becky, since retirement I often get confused over what day it is. I’m happy that tomorrow is SPRING (and my Mother’s birthday). And, I’m happy that we all made it through Winter. For me, it helped that we had more snow (because I did not have to go out in it) – I love watching the birds in the snow.

  4. I hope your pancake breakfast is wildly successful! I sure wish I could come and support you all and eat some pancakes! I have looked at this winter entirely differently as well (although, I do love winter) I found the deep darkness giving way to slowly lightening days a good companion to my grief… as if nature was helping me along.

  5. I have never been to a pancake breakfast — wish I could go to yours! Hope it all goes to plan & you have a great day!!
