The last rose of summer. The first is full of promise of all that is…
Eye Candy Friday
Let us, then, at the time appointed gather around their sacred remains and garland the passionless mounds above them with the choicest flowers of spring-time; let us raise above them the dear old flag they saved from dishonor; let us in this solemn presence renew our pledges to aid and assist those whom they have left among us a sacred charge upon a nation’s gratitude, the soldier’s and sailor’s widow and orphan.
General John Logan, General Orders No.11, May 5, 1868
It’s as true today as it was 139 years ago. Let us not forget to honor our veterans.
Happy Memorial Day weekend.

So true. Have a great weekend! A S&W isn’t the same without our Carole and Dale btw!
I’m proud to be the daughter of one who once served:) My gratitude is immense for all who serve this great country of ours.
Happy Memorial Day.
Happy Memorial Day to you, too …
You are so right Carole. Have a great weekend!
Beautiful sentiment beautiful picture. Enjoy your looooong weekend;-)
Well done, lady! I also think its fab that you and Dale are so active in living history events. You honor our veterans by reminding us not only of the present, but bringing the past to life.
(I still need to bring Phil to Gettysburg!)
As the daughter of a veteran and the wife of a soldier currently deployed, Memorial Day has a special meaning. Thanks for sharing the photo, and I hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.
Beautiful!
Very nice post, Carole. We have many things for which to be grateful, don’t we?
Thanks for the reminder – and the striking photo.
Speechless.
Carole, only you would have been able to dig up this great tribute! A good reminder that the holiday weekend is about more than BBQs.
Well done!
So very true, and beautifully said. Thank you.
They are lives we must honor. Enjoy your weekend, Carole.
What? It’s not just about getting a bargain on brisket?? Ohhhhhh. Thanks Carole. We’re all very emotional around here right now with Jeff’s dad so “sick”. He is dieing. And he did so much to enrich his children with Civil War knowledge and history – spending summer vacations traveling to museums and battlefields, etc. He is a Veteran as well. Thanks for this lovely tribute and for the quote. xoxox
Beautiful. Happy Memorial Day… but I guess I’ll get to say that in person.
Happy Memorial Day, Carole.

So true and touching. Thank you.
Thank you for the reminder. Have a wonderful weekend, Carole.
