Three On Thursday

For the past 6 years Dale and I have thrown a Halloween party on the Saturday before the 31st of October. It’s something we’ve really enjoyed but this year we aren’t doing it. I was on the fence about this year and had been struggling to come up with a theme and just wasn’t feeling it. For one, I think my creative juices are just … partied out. There was Patrick’s graduation party back in June and Jessica’s baby shower last month. For another, there has been a lot going on since August with hospital trips and extra time away from home – time that might normally be spent readying and decorating for a party. And finally, the last straw, I found out that the woman who I always hire to help me in the kitchen wasn’t available. Boom. The end. No party.

I’m not sad and we’re actually going to a party at Tom and Anne’s instead and I think taking a year off will give us renewed energy and creativity to get back at it next year. I am, however, reminiscing about my favorite costumes we have worn for the past few years so today, for Three on Thursday, I’m sharing the top three.

Halloween 2016. I was the Undead Librarian and he was Santiago from The Old Man and the Sea.

From 2015, The Undead Saloon party. Dale was Custer and I, well, I had a hard ride on that overland trail.

From 2014, The Scary Circus featuring The Ringmaster and Creepy Clown. This remains my favorite of them all.

Dressing up for Halloween is so much fun, I just love the chance to be someone else for a little while!

  1. I’m amazed at some of the parties you have had….they always look so much fun, but I can only imagine how draining it can be at times as well. It will be fun for you to be an attendee this year. <3

  2. I rather suspect your parties are legendary in your circle and you clearly have fun giving them. And yet, a change of pace is good. Enjoy being the guests from He!!, or whatever you go as. The Undead Reenactment Halloween can be next year or whenever you’re ready again.

  3. I cannot think of Halloween without thinking about some of your amazing costumes. I think, though, this year it is perfectly okay to be a guest – but, I can’t wait to see what you guys wear! XO

  4. I can certainly understand the needing-to-take-a-break thing! Putting on a party – and especially a themed Halloween party – takes so much planning and energy. And you’ve had a super busy (emotionally!!!) summer and fall. Time for a rest. (And I, too, can’t wait to see what you guys wear!) XO

  5. You guys have had a rather busy year. Relax and enjoy this Hallowen. I’m sure your costumes will be amazing as always. I’m kinda partial to the Scary Circus theme myself.

  6. I’m glad you’re taking a year off to recharge and renew, but still get to be a party-goer. I am fairly unimaginative when it comes to costumes, but certainly appreciate your creativity when it comes to dressing up, and will be with everyone else looking forward to seeing what you and Dale wear!

  7. You guys always have the best costumes! I hope we’ll get to see what you decide to do this year. Have fun and enjoy that someone else will have to do all the work. 😉

  8. Y’all are most definitely the Queen and King of costumes (and Halloween parties). Will you be dressing up this year? if so, I can’t wait to see the reveal! regardless, I hope you have fun at the party – and soak up lots of inspiration for next year. Happy (early) Halloween!!

  9. You have the best costumes of any party I’ve ever seen. It’s been years since we dressed up. This years costume is my favorite!! You guys are the best kind of party animal. xo

  10. When the boys were little we’d host the neighborhood party for the kids and it was always a lot of fun. My Mom and I always dressed up, so many happy memories. As a kid I loved Halloween.
