Eye Candy Friday

I’m sharing this bouquet of peonies with you today for a very special reason. Today is my darling Dale’s birthday. And peonies are his favorite. I can’t even tell you how grateful I am to get to celebrate this birthday with him . . . I feel that way every year, truthfully . . . but it’s especially poignant this year when I think of what could have been. His trip around the sun since his last birthday has been an interesting one, that’s for certain.

    My grandmother’s entire driveway had its western edge lined with peonies. They were planted some distance back, but in full bloom almost brushed you as you got out of the car. I would have planted my own here, but Louisiana is too warm to grow them.
    I even loved the little ants that roam across the buds (once I learned that their activity is necessary to allow the peonie buds to open).
