Time for a look back at what I read in November. It's a short list,…

I hope you didn’t arrive here thinking you’d see a finished pair of socks because this is where we are on sock #2.
Even though I spent a lot of time sitting and listening at the conference last weekend . . . I did not knit. It just doesn’t feel like the place for it. It’s not that I’m ashamed or uncomfortable to be seen knitting, but it’s hard enough to be a woman in politics without adding being a knitter to the mix. You know?
I am reading (and almost finished with) Bright Young Women and I am listening to Master Slave Husband Wife. Both are excellent, keeping me engaged and giving me lots to think about.
I hope you’re knitting and reading time is well spent this week. Be sure and visit Kat’s blog today to see what everyone is doing.

I’ve learned to always have knitting with me, but I don’t always knit. Sometimes it just doesn’t feel right as you said, but at least if you have knitting with you, you’re always ready for when it does feel right!
I hardly ever do any knitting when I’m at a meeting or conference – or even when I meet up with friends. It’s not at all that I’m shy or embarrassed about knitting in public, it’s more . . . my level of engagement. When I’m with friends or at a meeting, I tend to want to engage with . . . what’s happening in real time. Not my knitting. I don’t mind if others knit around me at all. It’s just . . . a connection thing for me. (Another example of “know thyself” . . . )
And I have Bright Young Women on audio. I’ve been meaning to give it a listen; glad you’re liking it.
I do understand about it not feeling right to knit. I would not feel comfortable knitting at any of my work meetings. Your books both look very interesting!
I am feeling very much in solidarity with our knitting this week! (and that pattern, FTW… I have knit many patterns, but this is truly my favorite so thank you for that!)
I really loved Master Slave Husband Wife… it was packed full of things I did not ever learn! And thank you for putting Bright Young Women on my radar!
Good Morning! I actually just finished the biggest socks I’ve ever made: 13 ” ones for a friend of my grandson. Besides that I’ve been trying to downsize my huge collection of fabric and am about to start reading Dirt by Bill Buford and is our Feb. book club selection. Your choice of Poisonwood Bible makes me want to reread it! I think I’ve read most of her books and still have that one. Have you read Demon Copperhead, her most recent book? Our book club read it last year, and we had an interesting discussion.
Even though I don’t hesitate to knit at many events, I totally understand where you’re coming from. Plus, there are times when I’m too busy taking notes to knit! I really enjoyed Master Slave Husband Wife, and the other book you’re reading sounds intriguing even though I’m typically not a true crime fan. You’ll have to let us know if it’s okay for scaredy cats to read!
I totally get your not knitting at the conference!
