Back this week with 3 more random things on my mind. This weekend is a…
Three On Thursday
It’s a random Thursday yet again. Here’s what’s on my mind.
The work in our living room is progressing. It may feel like it’s at a snail’s pace but it’s progress. The electrician has wired the new outlets we wanted and also run the electricity for the newly installed gas fireplace. The hardwood floor is about 75% installed, including the framing out for the granite hearth in front of the fireplace. Technically we didn’t need to do a hearth at all but I like the traditional look of it and how it sets the appliance apart and makes it look like a real fireplace.
I finished the annual financial reports for the library this week. These get reported to our state’s Board of Library Commissioners and it’s always a great feeling once they are done. It was trickier this year since the town changed the accounting software we use last July and creating the reports that I needed was not straightforward. I have to show how much we spent on books, on periodicals, on audiobooks and ebooks and videos as well as how much we paid in salaries, how much for supplies and postage and network fees and more. And, the budget we get from the town has to increase by 2.5% over an average of the previous 3 fiscal years in order for us to be certified by the state. We made it this year but not by a lot. Mostly because of some significant staff changes and new hires make less than people who have worked at the library for many, many years. And also because we didn’t get a COLA this year and our expense lines have been pretty close to level funded for a while. Anyway, it’s done and I’m glad to get that particular monkey off my back.
We have our last camping trip of the season coming up this weekend. It’s a quick one, just Friday after work until Sunday mid-day. We’re going to a campground that sits right under one of the bridges to Cape Cod. I used to look down at this campground when I was a kid as we’d go over that bridge and it looked like Mr. Roger’s neighborhood to me with all those little campers and cars and tents and I’ve wanted to camp there ever since. An opportunity presented itself for this weekend as our incoming Kiwanis president is holding his installation of officers at the pavilion at this campground on Saturday so we decided to turn it into a weekend. The weather is looking much better than what we had last weekend and we’re looking forward to one last camping hurrah.
How’s your Thursday going?
Well, my weekend enjoys no camping in a nostalgic spot. We are anticipating spectacular weather. I’m going to get to dust off my skills for serving others through group cooking which are unused since just before the pandemic. Hoping it’s like riding a bicycle.
Glad you’ve got that work done! I’m cleaning house today in anticipation of a quick visit by Dan next week!
My Thursday is looking like a cloudy travel day to visit my SiL. It’s a four-hour drive which is just about at my limit for sitting in the car. I’m hoping I can convince John to stop halfway but once he gets in the car he thinks he has to drive non-stop.
Sounds like lots of progress on the home front when you think of how many people have to be coordinated to get the various work done. Progress, indeed. Ah, annual budget reports… I do not miss them since retiring, in fact I had blocked them out of my brain until this post. LOL
My Thursday has some (very needed) rain forecast! And I will be very happy to keep this rain here, far away from your campsite! I am happy that there is progress on your living room! Each bit is that much closer to it all being done!
I’m so glad you’re going to be able to enjoy another camping trip, Carole. I hope the location is as magical as you imagined it would be as a child. Also happy to hear that your reno-progress is moving right along. Soon, that disruption will be behind you and you’ll (kind of) forget all about it. And YAY for accomplishing major work-tasks-with-deadlines! XO
Oh, I love that story about the campground… glad you finally get to go!!
I am ITCHING to get things moved back in upstairs — can put furniture/rugs on the floor tomorrow — and it isn’t even my living space. You’ll be SO HAPPY when that time comes!!
Congratulations on finishing up that big report! It sounds like a heck of a lot of work and a big source of stress, so I’m sure you’re feeling much lighter having finished it. Glad to hear the living room project is moving right along. Have a wonderful time on your camping trip — I hope the weather is perfect this time!
