It's time to put the fall session of Read With Us behind us and that…
Make a Voting Plan
I realize that I am preaching to the choir, at least based on those who comment, when I write a post about voting. Nevertheless, here I am, writing a post about voting.
But look! I have a fun graphic!
In case you’re wondering, for the first time in my life I have voted early. I have zero interest in waiting in line on election day, I have less than zero interest in encountering other voters (I’m thinking mostly of the ones who don’t think like I do) on election day. And I thought perhaps my election anxiety would diminish once I had already cast my vote.
That anxiety thing hasn’t happened, by the way.
Tomorrow I am mailing 200 postcards to swing states with handwritten messages that offer a friendly reminder that who you vote for is private but whether you vote is public record. It’s messaging that has been proven to motivate inconsistent voters to take action and vote.
So please accept this gentle reminder that it’s less than 2 weeks until what is probably the most important presidential election the USA has ever had. Vote early if you’re so inclined. Vote on the day if that’s your wish. Just make sure you . . .
Make a plan. Carry it out. And help others to do the same.

In Person! (I love it! Lines negligible here as we’re a blue county in a red state and MANY {most} either vote early or vote by mail.)
Registered
Voted before (and ALWAYS!)
In the know
BOTH!
When I lived in Michigan, early voting was not “a thing” and the one time I went to request an absentee ballot, you needed to provide a reason why you needed it and not every reason was “acceptable.”
PA however has early voting by mail (and in person at some locations) and I love it! I received my ballot in early October and returned it (by mail) the day after I received it. However, PA does not allow any of those ballots to be open or pre-canvassed before the polls open on Election Day. There is a story behind all this, because of course there is… but I am hoping that another blue seat or two in the state house/senate will cure that issue.
Voting matters… no matter how you vote. And yes, no one will ever know how you vote unless you tell them…. ladies, think of yourselves and your daughters when you fill in your ballot!
Getting registered to vote is the second thing we do when we get proof of residence in a new place (first thing is library cards). In my new state there is early voting AND an amendment on the ballot to make absentee voting available to everyone. I may vote early just because I can. 😀
Also, I just mailed postcards to voters this morning! Woo! Oh! And League of Women Voters! I am a big fan of democracy.
Done and dusted, Carole! I early voted on the first day. My anxiety went down a little bit, and over the last week or so, I have been trying to come to grips with the fact my that wishing the world would do what I want it to doesn’t often work. Thanks for your service to the voters of the USA.
We’ve voted by absentee ballot since the pandemic. So much easier and more pleasant than standing in line with folks who are not like-minded. I never mail my ballot, but rather drop it off…and we did that a couple of weeks ago.
Here in California absentee ballots are available to everyone. I filled mine in and my husband and I took a drive to the county seat and deposited our ballots in the box in front of the building where they are counted. It was a nice drive on a sunny afternoon, and about two hours later I got a text that my ballot had been received and counted. My family laughed at me for not putting my ballot in the mail, but I wanted to be sure it got there! No excuses for not being counted?
Oregon is an all-mail voting system and our ballots arrived over the weekend–I’ll drop them off at the drop box tomorrow when I go to my volunteer job. So–by mail, already registered, voted before, read up on stuff, and encouraging everyone I know to vote.
Two weeks! Two stressful weeks left!
I will be voting in person on Election Day; I’m pretty sure my 2020 ballot got lost in the mail, so I want to be sure my vote gets counted. I’ll also be taking my daughter along with me to vote because she is pretty much as invested in this election as I am and I want her to be part of the process (she’s excited that she’ll be able to vote in the next presidential election!). I’m proud to say that I have voted in every single election since I became eligible, including the so-called boring ones. And everyone else in my family who can vote already has, either by mail or early.
My voting plan includes voting by mail four weeks ago. I’ve tracked my ballot and it was received and accepted, so now it’s just sitting there waiting to be counted. Ryan just called to tell me that he voted by mail (and he lives in PA so there is that swing state thing).
I don’t remember ever having early voting as I would have done it. But, this year we have it and today I was heading to the Friends of the Library book sale across the street from Town Hall and went in and voted. It was easy and had a steady stream of people.
I voted the first day my ballot arrived. I put in a secure dropbox. Everyone in Washington votes by mail. Not feeling less anxious.
In my state, everyone votes by mail (although I put mine in an official drop box instea). I was sorry to see the ritual of voting with my neighbors go, although you can vote in person and there are several days of that. Honestly, I love being able to discuss issues in real time with my spouse and friends. I had questions the other night about a proposition. Texted my friend to ask about her daughter’s opinion (who will be directly impacted). It was a great discussion. From the concern expressed in my circle, I think people are voting in droves in a state where at least the top of the ticket is a fore gone conclusion.
I voted today!! Working early voting and it’s been steady. The 5th should be interesting…
In person… EARLY! Done & dusted on Wednesday. Just happened to check on ballots & noticed that Maddy’s absentee ballot was received the same day!!
