As I walked around my yard this weekend I was struck by how much purple…
Weekending, April 18th-21st, 2025
We had a great long weekend here with (mostly) good weather, some fun, some family time, and some spring chores.

On Saturday we had our first outdoor cocktail hour of the season! It always feels so good to sit on the deck and see the backyard coming to life again while eating snacks and enjoying music. I made smash burgers on the Weber griddle for dinner but by then it had gotten to chilly to stay outside. Still, it was a great promise of days to come.
Sunday was Easter and we had the kids over for a traditional ham dinner. We were able to have apps on the deck, although it was windy, and Jackie hunted for eggs in the yard. I don’t have a single photo of the day but I have great memories of enjoying just being with my family.
On Monday I got out in the garden for a bit, trimming back some things, eyeballing the weeds, and planning the addition of another raised bed for flowers. And I did the task I’ve been anxious about for months . . . I opened the plastic tub of dahlias that we stored in the basement last fall. I was worried that it had been too cold down there now that we don’t have a furnace but I happily discovered that they were just fine.
I wrapped them in plastic last year and each bundle was labeled with the variety. I also wrote on each tuber in sharpie to identify them.
Many have already started to sprout, which is a great sign and also makes it much easier to plant them. There were a couple that had rotted but because of the way I wrapped them the mold didn’t spread to the other tubers. They are all very different in size and shape and now I just have to be patient until I can plant them in a few weeks.
And that’s a wrap on my weekend.

Sounds like a wonderful grounding weekend, Carole. Glad your dahlias made it, and I am looking forward to seeing their blooms. Happy Tuesday with a short week ahead.
Hooray for lots of time on the deck and all those dahlia tubers which will become beautiful blossoms. The days where you just enjoy yourself and don’t take any photos are often the best!
Sounds like a pretty terrific early spring weekend. Hooray for dahlias ready to plant.
Sounds like a wonderful weekend and that’s a lot of dahlia tubers you have!!
It’s so wonderful to get outside on the patio (or deck) again in the spring! I’m glad you had a lovely weekend, Carole. XO
What a fun weekend! The weather was just fantastic here as well! It feels so good to want to be outdoors in the sunshine!
I think your being able to sit outside, even if only for a brief amount of time, means spring has finally arrived. And I also think that you must have been having a wonderful time on Sunday if you were too busy enjoying it to take photos. Can’t wait for another summer of dahlias!
We’ve been trying to sit outside, too, but it’s a lot of back-and-forth right now with the inconsistent weather. So looking forward to a few warm days strung together. Dahlia season is nigh!!! LOVE!
Isn’t it wonderful to be outside again? We have all of our furniture out and will put up our Canopy this week..squee! I look forward to seeing your Dahlia’s grow again!
