As I walked around my yard this weekend I was struck by how much purple…
Weekending, Now With Camping
I didn’t mean to abandon the blog last week after Wednesday but I had a good reason: we went on our first camping trip of the season! It was a bit spur of the moment, prompted by the fact that Dale was off for April vacation and the weather forecast was fine, at least for a couple of days.
It was quick trip, literally just 48 hours from Thursday lunch time until Saturday lunch time, but we saw a lot, relaxed a lot, and shook out the cobwebs to get us ready for the full camping season ahead. We had a site right on the Cape Cod Canal and this is the same site we’ll be in for an extended fall stay, from the end of August until the end of October. We won’t be there that whole time, but our camper will and we will be there a lot, I hope.
Here are some snapshots of our trip.

We walked the canal on Thursday afternoon and saw quite a few boats, plenty of ducks, a few ospreys, and lots of other people walking and biking.
We had a campfire, of course. It was just a small one but perfect for the season as it was really too chilly to be outside for long once the sun went down.
Fred and George settled right back into the camping routine. The cutest moment of the trip with them was when it was time to go home and I got out their carriers and they both jumped right into them. I think they know the drill at this point and I love having them with us.
Dale is happiest when he’s outside.
On Friday night this Viking River ship went through the canal and that was a really cool thing to see. It was about 9:30pm and we were actually inside playing cards. Dale was facing the big back window of the camper and he suddenly exclaimed, “get up, get up, let’s go, it’s a cruise ship!” And we raced outside and watched it go by. It was the biggest ship I’ve ever seen go through the canal and I’m so glad we captured it even if the photo isn’t the greatest.
It was a great little getaway!

It sounds like a great little getaway! I am generally happiest outside myself, if the weather is tolerable. I am trying to adapt to the Scandinavian philosophy that there is no bad weather, just bad clothes, but I’m not there yet – lol. I am envious of your camping plans, and I bet it felt great to blow off the cobwebs. I guess Viking starts a cruise from that port? Interesting!
Great start to the season. I had no idea river cruising was an option there! And your fall plans are making me envious already.
What a fun get-away Carole! That sounds like such a lovely spot and parking your camper there for an extended period in the Fall is a great idea. I love that Fred and George go with you!
That sounds like a great start to the camping season! I could maybe even learn to like camping if it was in some comfort and came with cats like F&G!
It sounds wonderful!! The kitties look so happy and relaxed as does Dale. Miss you guys!!
Oh, that looks like a wonderful weekend!! I really enjoy watching big boats — which is why I like getaways on Lake Superior and/or the ocean — and it’s amazing to see them so close! Your plans for fall sound just perfect.
Oh, that looks like a great way to “break in” the camper for another season of fun and adventure! I love your camping-cats! What a great way for ALL of you to enjoy a break from “regular life.” XO
