Today I'm sharing 3 things on my To Do List right now. Schedule my mammogram…
Three On Thursday
Hello and Happy May 1st! When I was little my Nana always celebrated May Day by hiding a basket for me somewhere in our yard. She would ring out front doorbell and then dash away to stand behind a tree and watch me come out and hunt for the basket. It always held a little bouquet of flowers, something sweet to eat, and a small present or two. It’s a great memory of the first of May!
Here are other things I’m thinking about today . . .
- I’m loving how beautiful everything is right now. The maple trees are just starting to leaf out and it’s my favorite shade of green in the world. The flowering trees are stunning, dotting the sides of the roads with gorgeous pinks and purples. The daffodils are fading but the tulips are coming in strong. The birds are singing and the hummingbirds are back, baby. Its a glorious time of year.
- I made this delicious pork tenderloin last night. It was fast and simple and perfect for Wednesday night family dinner.
- I started reading Nesting, our Read With Us spring selection, on Tuesday and picked it up again last night when I got into bed. Two hours later I was still wide awake and reading. I made myself put it down so I could get some sleep but consider this your warning to start it when you’ve got the time to finish it, perhaps even all in one sitting.
I hope you’re thinking about good things right now, too.

Morning Carole. It’s a beautiful morning here in my neck of the woods, also. Still cool in the mornings, though in high 80s every afternoon this week. We’re all leafed out and the sycamore at my new house is GLORIOUS! We have crape myrtles next. Looking forward to seeing what colors the previous owners planted (white is my favorite).
Happy Thursday!
We made May baskets and left them on the neighbors’ doorstep. So exciting to leave a treat and then try to hide. Ha-ha, the simple joys of elementary. Thanks for that memory.
I remember dancing around the Maypole in elementary school. I loved it!
Thanks for the link to the pork recipe – looks delish! And, I am now #3 in the queue for Nesting!!
We made May baskets and hung them on doorknobs, too, and like Vera, we also danced around a Maypole in elementary school. Saying that makes me sound like I grew up 100 years ago, but it was fun. I am going to make that apricot sauce for venison steak tonight, and I had that same experience with Nesting. Thanks for three good things!
May 1 was always an extra-special day in our house when I was growing up . . . because it’s my dad’s birthday and that meant chocolate birthday cake!!!! My mom used to help my sister and I make little May Day baskets from construction paper and doilies with pipe cleaner handles. We filled them with flowers and delivered them secretly to our neighbors. Such great memories! XO
This is absolutely a magical time of the year. Lots of hope inspiration from nature right in our faces. My cherry trees have bloomed and gone, but they are so glorious when they bloom. Azaleas, ditto. Hydrangeas and magnolias are budding, tulips are up. Unfortunately, arctic weather has wiped out two of my camellias, and all of my gardenias. One of my great joys on my morning walk is smelling the honeysuckle. You and Kym are making me want to plant some hellebores!
Sweet Nana memories!! Happy May Day!
What a fantastic memory that is that you’ve shared with us! I’ve never heard of baskets being a thing for May Day, but I do remember doing a dance around a maypole when I was in kindergarten or first grade. We’re past the initial blooms here, but my lilac bushes are getting ready to bloom and I’m excited (even though I know they’ll make me sneeze)!
Thank you for the recipe – sounds delicious!! I, too, am loving all the spring colors and enjoying seeing my perennials come back to life.
PS. I’m loving the new reel of photos at the top of your site!!
