Friday was the onset of something I'm calling it A Spring of Solo Side Quests:…
Weekending, Birthday Style
I had a fabulous birthday weekend and I’ve got a whole bunch of photos to share that proves it.

I spent all day Friday at the camper with Fred & George. I journaled and read, I drove over the Bourne Bridge to a specialty market for lunch, I gazed at the canal and thought about how it felt to turn 60. It was restorative and restful and I loved every minute of it.

On Saturday, Dale and I drove over the Sagamore Bridge to go to Dennis to get my birthday present. It’s that bracelet second from the bottom, the one with the gold ball right in the middle. It’s made by Jonathan Palino, who was the head jeweler at Eden Hand Arts, the original creator of the Cape Cod screwball bracelet. It’s a whole thing and I’m sure I’ve talked about it on here before. The bottom line is that Eden isn’t selling in person anymore and they aren’t creating anything new. Jonathan has started selling his own designs and the one I chose is called The Tendril and he designed it because of his garden. He only sells on Saturdays and we had to wait in line for almost 2 hours to get into the shop but it made for an experience and I love the bracelet and the story behind it.

We had a terrific lunch afterwards at Scargo Cafe. And here’s the humpback whale ring that I also got. Please note that my manicure perfectly matches my Aperol Spritz.

Sunday was my birthday and, while I originally said I didn’t want a party, about 3 weeks ago I started rethinking that. I realized that I did, in fact, want a small party, I just didn’t want to be the one to have to plan it. So I talked to Hannah and she was immediately on board. Doreen offered to help and just like that, a party was born.

The theme was “a tini bit older” which suited me perfectly. There were 4 types of martinis: dirty, espresso, lemon, and cosmos. The menu was what I lovingly called Barbara’s Greatest Hits. Barbara was my mom and she was the ultimate hostess and I loved that Hannah and Doreen chose to make so many of her recipes like crabbies and spinach balls and party dip.

Twenty of my closest and dearest friends were there, along with my kids, and it was perfect. I considered it a small gathering but Hannah pointed out how fortunate I was that I had that many people who showed up at basically the last minute just to celebrate me. She’s right and I am so grateful for the community I have surrounding me.

So this is 60. And I feel good about it. Content with where I am. Happy with the choices I’ve made that have gotten me here. And so so grateful for the people who love me.
