Eye Candy Friday

It’s been 25 years since I’ve had a bleeding heart in my garden but I finally brought her back! The back story is that I had a bleeding heart and when we were putting the deck on the back of our house in 2001, one of the workers dropped a sledge hammer on it. And it never came back. The truth was that it wasn’t in a great location as it was getting too much sun. Last year I finally realized that I had a great spot to plant a new bleeding heart in our front bed which doesn’t get sun until late afternoon. This is right under our bedroom window and she’s small but she’s mighty and I’m so glad she’s part of our garden now.

Have a great weekend!

  1. I love bleeding hearts, so I was delighted when we moved into our house and discovered we had one. A couple of years ago, I found we had a second one growing across the driveway from the original. It was the first one to bloom this year (and so far the original doesn’t have any flowers), but our landscapers got a little over enthusiastic when cleaning up and knocked the first flowers right off the plant. I’m hoping both come back from that incident and the weird weather. Enjoy your new plant — long may it bloom!

  2. I love bleeding hearts as well! I’d love to have them again, but my yard is all sun. Sigh. So thank you for sharing that lovely photo! Have a great weekend!

  3. Count me as another fan of bleeding hearts. Gorgeous! We used to have one, but it somehow has disappeared over the years….

  4. Carole, what a lovely plant to have under your bedroom window! I have never had a bleeding heart, but have always loved them. Long may she reign!

  5. Such a charmer of a flower! So glad you’ve got a “replacement” bleeding heart for the one you lost all those years ago. XO

  6. I am another lover of bleeding heart plants. I’m glad you found just the right spot for your plant. Mine, the same shade of flower, did not come back this year. She was older and I suspect she met her match in heat and drought of August and early September.
