About Fred

My sweet little baby Fred is having surgery today to repair a corneal sequestrum. In a nutshell, he developed a corneal ulcer right before I returned from Turkey and Greece and it’s not healing and he needs surgery to remove the dead tissue and have a graft placed to rebuild the eye. He should have full vision in the eye once he is healed and will have a teeny scar across part of the eyeball.

Cat snuggles

It’s scary, of course, and he and George had never been separated in their entire lives until I took Fred to the ophthalmologist last week – and that was only for about 2 hours. I basically gaslit George by sneaking Fred out of the house for the appointment and them coming back and leaving Fred in the car while I went in to get George. I’m hoping I tricked him into thinking that Fred was only in the car for a few minutes before I grabbed him and took them both to the campground. Today they will be separated for several hours.

In other words, it’s stressful for all of us.

If you could send good thoughts into the universe for my cats and for Dale and I and for the surgeon and his team I sure would appreciate it.

  1. Oh, poor little Fred! I’m sending ALL the best juju your way, Carole, for a successful surgery and speedy healing . . . and minimal stress for little George (and you). XO (I had a corneal ulcer a couple of years ago and it was a MOST uncomfortable situation, so I am really feeling bad for Fred. Poor kitty . . . )

  2. Oh, Carole, this is so stressful for everyone. I rescued a dog with one eye, and I live in fear that something will happen to the other one, but he does remarkably well. It sounds like you have a great team lined up to take care of Fred. I assume that they will suture his eye closed? Fred/George snuggles must be available after this when Fred gets home to George. All my kitty love to Fred and good vibes to everyone else.
