The Big Reveal

Secret Pal 6 has finished and I had a great spoiler! Remember this?

And this?

A few weeks ago I received this:

I was bad and I never showed you that one but it’s all purple and it’s all fiber to be spun. Yummmy.

My final package arrived on Monday and included this:

The snowman is mine but the book! And the yarn! Knit Picks shimmer and Sally Melville’s new book right off my Amazon.com wish list. Woot!

My pal was Cecily and she was great. She sent thoughtful gifts that she researched and knew I would enjoy. Thank you, Cecily. I’ll be working on your purple socks very soon!

My spoilee was Cheryl and I had lots of fun sending her packages. Turns out, she knew who I was from the get go, but she never let on. I’m hoping now she’ll be a regular reader of the blog.

Begin rant.
While I had a great experience with Secret Pal 6 I know that in such a large group people do get burned. I don’t really understand how this happens, though. I mean, really! You sign up for this program and you participate. The end. You don’t sign up and then not send anything. Or not spend enough. Or whatever. And yet, there have been posts all over the place on the Secret Pal 6 blog, asking participants to let their hostesses know if they never received anything or if they received gifts that weren’t up to the standards. I think it’s terribly rude and I can’t imagine dropping the ball like that.
End of rant.

It’s unseasonably cold around here today. It makes me want to say:
And that’s all the news from Lake Woebegone.

  1. Great collection of spoils! And roving too? Wow.

Looks like you’ve got a Longaberger theme going regarding props in your photos ;-). I collect too….or used to.

  2. I love your cute little snowmen. My grandma collects snowmen and I knitted her one for Christmas last year.

Your secret pal did a fantastic job. I totally agree that it is a shame people can’t follow through. It ruins it for everyone.

  3. I’m so happy for you that you had a great Secret Pal experience!
I participated last time, and it was pretty disappointing.

It’s cold here too. -1, and we woke up to no power this morning. Brrrrr.

    Stay warm!

  4. I’m glad you had such a great pal. You deserve it after how good you were to me! I don’t know what’s wrong with people either! I can’t believe some people ended up with nothing.

  5. Yummy purple fiber! And I’m so glad your SP6 experience was positive…I’ve seen a lot of negative stuff and I just don’t get it.

  6. I will never “get” people, but remember that old poster, “People Suck”? Sometimes that’s true, unfortunately. That was the reason, as you know, for the genesis of the Better Pals. Keep it small and among people you mostly know and can vouch for. I think we’ll see more smaller exchanges cropping up.

I’m glad you had a good time, and you surely were spoiled…and I know you…I can guarantee you spoiled your giftee, too!

btw, I brought in the knits to Kaleidoscope today. They were THRILLED. Thank you for all the gorgeous hats!

  7. I’m like you, I don’t understand how people can sign up and then completely crap out on their commitments. I’ve been burned badly and unfortunately I’ll never be a Secret Pal again!
I’m glad your experience was a good one 🙂

  8. Wow, wonderful gifts, Carole. You were indeed a lucky one! I did secret pal 3 and 4 and had good experiences with both my spoilee and spoiler (does that make sense?) but I know many that did not…

  9. That is why the odds are pretty good that you won’t see me signing up for any of the gift exchange things. I never know whether I’ll have enough time or money to participate and I don’t want to be one of those ‘people who suck’ :o)
