A Day in the Life of a Sock Knitter

Just as I predicted, I spent yesterday watching all of the inauguration festivities.  It’s unusual for me to watch tv all day but it was worth it to see everything – from the Obamas leaving Blair House and going to church in the morning to their first dance at the Neighborhood Ball in the evening.

And, just as I predicted, I worked on the Crew Socks all day.  And I finished.  Yesterday morning I had knit 6 rounds of sock 2.    I knit the leg all morning and by the time the Inaugural Luncheon was finished I was turning the heel.

While the Obamas watched the parade I finished the gusset decreases and made my way down the foot.

As they were dancing to “At Last” I was starting the toe decreases.  And I was weaving in the ends when Robin Roberts interviewed President Obama.  Whew!

That’s a lot of knitting (and tv watching) for one day but now I’ve got a finished pair of socks for my friend Lois and some great memories of the inauguration.

There’s just one thing.  Lois is a Republican.  Do you think she’ll still want these socks?

  1. Those socks are awesome! I love this pattern….it’s such an enjoyable knit :). Lois will love them republican or not. 🙂

  2. These socks are full of hope, of course she will love them! What a great memory day!

  3. Mmm…just call them Brainwashing Socks, and don’t tell her why – maybe the liberal vibes in them will rub off on her. 😀 Okay, maybe not.. They’re gorgeous socks anyway – I’m sure she’ll love them.

  4. Congratulations on finishing your socks! I watched the inauguration until the reporters started talking about the day. That always bugs me to hear them talk about what I’ve just seen myself. I turned it off because I forgot about the parade. So I missed that part. 🙁 But I did tune in to see some of the Neighborhood Ball.

  5. I’m sure that Lois-the-Republican would shun these socks. In fact, she’d probably use them as dust rags. Just in case you decide not to give them to her, you ought to know that I, however, am a committed Democrat who would revere them. Just sayin’.

  6. Is Lois Irish? They will be extraordinarily perfect for St. Paddy’s Day.

If she doesn’t like them, please remember I am dues-paying member of the Green Party 😉

  7. What a great day! I wish I had been able to do that. If Lois isn’t interested, I’d be happy to help you with those socks… Just sayin’.

  8. Great socks! I agree with Manise.

Although, if Lois does sense the power of the socks, please remember that some of us are life long Dems. ;^)

  9. I think she will love those socks – but, if she doesn’t there’s a Democrat over here in Claremont that would love them… 🙂

  10. Republicans enjoy a peaceful transition of power as much as anybody. Fiscal conservatives are also super fond of the color green. 😀

  11. She’ll love them. Even though I am a Republican, I am hoping for the best for our new president. How can anyone not? Even if I may not agree with all the policies that he will put in place, hoping he fails is just not an option…that would be like hoping my country fails. That’s the beauty of our democracy. The majority chose, and we will see how things go. If everything, hopefully, goes well, then we will reward that in the next election. And if things don’t go to the American people’s liking, then in four years there will be a change to something else. OK, if Lois doesn’t want them….this Republican wears a size 8 and would love them!

  12. Those lucky green socks where knit on the most memorable day in our generation’s history. What’s not to love?

  13. they are green socks. not blue socks. of course she will like them. especially since you knit them for her.

  14. a little democratic ju-ju is good for all republicans (huge grins)
    They are great socks.

I could only “watch” the magnificent day’s events for awhile, because cnn.com kept bumping me off their streaming video – there were so many people trying to log on and see what was happening. What I saw was grand.

  15. I watched it live while IMing with Risa and then watched it again on TiVo when RR got home. How wonderful to have an articulate, intelligent leader. :o) Love the socks!

  16. I’m jealous! I had to work & have only seen sporatic post-Inauguration Day coverage. IBut my DD1 was THERE!!]

The socks are so Spring – and St. Pat’s – and Fresh – and I’m sure Lois will love them. [I might not share the Inaug. Day connection, tho.:-]

  17. TODAY IS WED, A SNOW DAY & MY FIRST WORKDAY SINCE YOU GAVE ME THE BEAUTIFUL (DEMOCRATIC) SOX, AND I AM WEARING THEM. THE SOX FIT PERFECTLY, BUT EVERYONE KNEW THEY WOULD, AND SINCE I WAS A HISTORY MAJOR EONS AGO I LOVE THE HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE ATTACHED TO THEM. I WATCHED AS MUCH OF THE DAY’S EVENTS AS POSSIBLE BUT COULDN’T BE HOME FOR ALL OF THEM IT’S NICE TO KNOW MY SOX WERE! THANKS CAROLE FOR A WARM & WONDERFUL GIFT.
