Come Saturday Morning

I did something unusual on Saturday. I went shopping with Hannah. You see, I’m not a big shopper and it used to be that shopping with Hannah meant a day of arguing and disagreeing and compromising. I tell you this so you’ll understand when I say that I was dreading going prom dress shopping with her. Guess what, though – we had a terrific day together! We didn’t argue and we laughed and talked and agreed on just about everything.

Hannah helped me pick out a new pocket book. I love the green! Of course she was pushing designer bags on me but, ummm, no. Some of them cost more than my last spinning wheel!

And we found an adorable prom dress for her. I’m only showing you a sneak peek right now but you’ll see the rest of the dress in due time, I assure you. And this is only 1 of 2 dresses since Hannah is going to both her junior prom and her boyfriend’s senior prom. The junior prom dress is being made by dear Lois so this one is for the senior prom and it’s short and flirty and just so friggin’ cute! We get bonus points because it was on sale.

We had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory and ended the day by getting matching manicures. It was really fun and I enjoyed my daughter’s company so much.

And here’s the real shocker. I didn’t knit a single stitch all day. And I didn’t even care.

  1. The day sounds heavenly. That is the greenest leather I have ever seen. The bag looks like it has style and yet looks useful, too. Nicely done all around. 😉

  2. It sounds like a fun day! Shopping with my girls is getting so much more enjoyable as they get older too. 😉

  3. It’s wonderful that you and Hannah had a great day. Your new bag is so cute! I don’t blame you for buying a non-designer bag. That way you have money left for the yarn store:)

  4. Yay you! That’s the plural you. What is it with bags these days? My beloved knitting bag is showing definite signs of wear, so I’ll need a new tote soon, but I’ll be darned if I’ll pay designer prices.

  5. The colors of the prom dress would definately be flattering on her daughter with her complexion. I love the new green bag, I have one similar to it and practically wore it out as it seem to go with so many different colors. It sounds like you had a wonderful time and I am glad that you realized it, sometimes we take these treasured times forgranted.

  6. I have to say, I’m enjoying reliving these mother/daughter moments with you and your daughter, and I can’t wait to see the pre-prom photos. And by the way, that gorgeous beaded dress my daughter had? $43 on sale at Lord & Taylor because the zipper seam had opened up a bit.

  7. That sounds like my kind of day. Mother/daughter time can be such a treat. I’m sure that the prom pictures will be well worth waiting for.

  8. Glad you had such a wonderful day with your daughter. Hopefully this is the start of a new trend in mother-daughter shopping for you!

  9. I know what you mean about shopping with a teen daughter! I wish my Jillian and I could have a great day like that w/o all the bickering while shopping! I absolutely LOVE the new bag!! Where, oh where did you find it?

  10. Oh how wonderful! Something for me to look forward to when that time comes for us!! Do you like the boyfriend?

  11. What a great day! I love your new bag, the sneak peak of Hannah’s dress, and your lovely nails. It’s so great that Hannah’s dress was on sale! E’s wasn’t. 🙁

  12. I am so glad I am not the only one that goes into battle when it comes time to take my daughter shopping. I am letting her grandma take her shopping for her dress for her 8th grade formal.

I LOVE the new bag – great color!

Your nails look wonderful – I keep debating on whether or not I should go back to getting mine done, – hmmmmmm….

Looking forward to seeing how beautiful Hannah looks in her prom dresses! Glad you had a nice day together.

  13. what a great day. daughters are a treasure. i am so blessed to have heather.oh yeah love the bag!!!

  14. OH! I can say with all honesty, I KNOW! Shopping used to be awful with Bethany! In fact, she went prom shopping with her friends, I could NOT make myself go and that was FINE with her! It has changed now, thank god! Everything in it’s time!
Love your new bag and your wonderful manicure!
    xo

  15. Love the bag!

I’m so glad you girls had a lovely day out. Mother and daughter shopping trips can be such a crap shoot.

  16. Sounds like the absolutely perfect day! Love that green bag. I love my green bag, too, but sometimes find it is just a tad TOO big. Yours looks like a fab size.

  17. Great purse! I love the springiness of the green. I’m glad you had a great day with Hanna – those are nice days to have, and good memories.

  18. Oh, that sounds like a great day. The pocketbook is pretty! But, just that little bit of seeing Hannah’s dress makes me think it is gorgeous. And, she will look awesome in that color of blue!

Thanks for reminding me that I really, really need a manicure!!

  19. DD and I went shopping a week ago Friday to find a skirt for her to wear to an anime convention. I did knit, but only on the bus and while waiting for her to try on a few things. We nearly always agree so shopping together is easy. I love mother-daughter time and am painfully aware that we have only a few more years before she’s off on her own. The handbag looks great!

  20. The dress looks beautiful! I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of it.
How’s the spinning & knitting going with that manicure?

  21. Awww, that is so sweet! Apparently Hannah is ahead of the curve — daughters aren’t supposed to begin to appreciate their mothers until they are at least 22. No surprise, though, she probably takes after you in intelligence and perceptiveness 🙂

  22. It’s great when it all falls into place and a perfect day is had! I’m glad it fell on you.

  23. It’s so lovely when you get to the stage you can actually shop together without falling out. Have reached that stage with one dd only two to go. The green bag is heavenly.

  24. That’s an awesome bag! I’m so glad you could have a great day shopping for a prom dress, I bet it’s a memory Hannah will have forever. ;o)

    p.s. uhm…BOYFRIEND?!?

  25. It’s just the most magical thing when our daughters grow up to be our friends.
I can totally relate to this post!! (as I went through this with both daughters)
    Love your new bag!

  26. Prom? Boyfriend? Wasn’t Hannah *just* like 12? 🙂

LOVE LOVE LOVE the bag….deets please!

Hannah will look totally glam in that dress (I predict, heh)

  27. a memory to cherish. you have crossed a wonderful bridge in your relationship. thanks for sharing.
