Ten on Tuesday

Three Cupcakes blog size

Today is my 45th birthday and today’s Ten on Tuesday topic is completely self-serving. Let’s talk about 10 Ways to Have a Happy Birthday . . .

  1. Be kind to yourself. Remember that your outlook will greatly determine the way your day goes.
  2. Treat yourself. It’s wonderful to get gifts from friends and family but I’m a firm believer in buying something special for myself, too. Last week I visited the Clinique counter and bought a bunch of new skin care products. Some of them may have even been anti-aging type stuff. Ahem.
  3. Do what you love. Knit, spin, read, talk on the phone, watch reruns of Grey’s Anatomy – do what makes you happy!
  4. Be with the people you love. My person is going out tonight but we celebrated last weekend with dinner together and reached a compromise which leads me to
  5. Eat what you love. I let Dale off the hook for going out this evening by getting him to promise to bring me sushi. Sushi makes me happy.
  6. Reflect. Think about the year that just passed and the things you’ve done, the times you’ve laughed, the happy memories you’ve made. Remember that the good (almost) always outweighs the bad.
  7. Plan for the year ahead. Birthdays are kind of like your own personal New Year’s Eve. If you want to change some of the things in your life your birthday is the perfect time to do it.
  8. Buy yourself some flowers. Fresh flowers in my house makes me really happy.
  9. Laugh. Find something funny and just laugh. Laughing is so good for you!
  10. Eat cake. Or a cupcake. Or even a slice of pie. Whatever you choose, put a candle in it and and make a wish and blow out that candle.

Happy Birthday to all of us!

  1. First, of course, happy birthday! I think one of the most important things is making sure the day is special, and you sure did that. I love your list. LOVE. You are a wise wise woman. I use New Year’s to reflect, and plan, so not the birthday, but hey, they are really close together, so it is the same thing. 🙂

  2. They say it’s your birthday,
You’re gonna have a good time!
    I’m glad it’s your birthday!
Happy birthday to you! (with apologies to Sir Paul)

  3. Happy Birthday! Great list – I also believe in extending your birthday into more than a day. My family (sisters mostly) is notoriously late on gifts so you can stretch out the birthday fun that way.

  4. A very Happy Birthday to you! Have a most wonderful day my friend.

Your list is spot on. I need to clip it and post it on my computer/ fridge as a reminder. Life is pretty darn good most of the time when you stop and think about it.

  5. Happy Birthday! Love your list especially number 1 and 10. Oh how you torture with those luscious cupcakes!!

  6. I celebrated my birthday last week — for the first time I realized that if I’m really going to enjoy my birthday, I need to do some stuff to make myself happy because *shock* the world doesn’t stop and revolve around me for a day and I’m just going to end up being a big ole immature poop otherwise.

I think as we get older birthdays become more personal… like you said… buy yourself presents, flowers, reflect, plan, etc.

At least until we get really old and then they start throwing banquets in our honor and we’ll probably wish for these more quiet birthdays. HA!

    Happy Birthday, Carole!!

  7. Happy birthday, Carole! I always feel birthdays should spread out appealingly, so I’m glad yours has already occupied a couple days. Make sure it takes up a few more days and do fun things to celebrate!

  8. Happy Birthday, my dear friend! I’m glad you got a special dinner (and cupcakes) this weekend 🙂 Love the list, and #1 is key, a positive attitude is the kicker for sure! Hope you have a wonderfully full and joyful day.

  9. Happy Birthday Carole with love and hugs. Probably a bit different this year, but new traditions can start. I may be a bit older than you, but I am sharing the year of firsts of having a DD in college. I just still have two running around at home.

  10. Happy Birthday Carole!
Enjoy your day today, next week, and as long as you can. I’ll bet a cupcake would help it last all year!

  11. Happy Birthday, Carole. I’ve never participated in a Ten on Tuesday – I don’t have a blog or web site to put them on. However, I always enjoy reading yours and usually follow at least some of the links to others who also post their Ten list. I especially like your suggestions for treating yourself and planning for the year ahead. My birthdays now number a few more than 60; I’ve had many more than I’m going to have! I need to be sure I enjoy all that remain!

  12. Happy B-day Carole! You have good ideas about how to celebrate- I totally agree! Hope you have some great surprises in store!
