Ten on Tuesday

March 1, 2011 By Carole

I have a habit of complaining about the month of March. It’s long and I’m really sick of winter by this time. There are no Monday holidays and the days are often gray. However, I try to stay positive and upbeat so this week’s theme for Ten on Tuesday is 10 Things to Like About the Month of March.

  1. Margene’s birthday is in March. It’s hard to dislike a month that includes the birthday of one of your very best friends.
  2. St. Patrick’s Day. It’s not a holiday that comes with a day off from work but it’s still a lot of fun. We have friends who host an annual party and we often go to the parade in Boston. It’s a great excuse to drink Guinness, too.
  3. Crocus. We’ve had a ton of snow so I’m not sure if they will be delayed but I do usually have crocus in bloom sometime in March.
  4. Birds. They are more active and more vocal. My goldfinches are already showing signs of yellow again. Hooray!
  5. Melting. We still get snow in March but it just doesn’t hang around as long, thank goodness.
  6. Pancakes. Our Kiwanis pancake breakfast is always in March and, while it’s a lot of work, it’s also a lot of fun. Plus, it’s an event that includes all you can eat pancakes and bacon and what’s not to like about that?
  7. March Madness. I love me some woman’s college basketball.
  8. Spring Break. Hannah will be home for a whole week and it’s so nice to have her around – this is definitely something good about March.
  9. Mardi Gras is in March and that means King Cake. I made it once before and it’s so worth the effort that I hope to make one this year, too.
  10. Finally, and most importantly, SPRING arrives in March. This year it’s March 20th and I can’t wait!

I feel better about March already. If you wrote a Ten on Tuesday list don’t forget to add your link to the list below.

I was wondering if you didn’t like March because it’s still winter where you live. The love of March may be a local climate thing. 🙂

You know how much I like March and you’ve listed every reason why!! My snowdrop and crocus patch is covered with several inches of snow, which could melt this week. Maybe we’ll have flowers soon! Nothing beats spring for happiness, right? We all love some spring.

Nice job! I polled three people yesterday to try to get a post up, and we came up with THREE things. Add in Mr. E’s birthday, an occasional ski week possible in the month. I like March because when it is over, it really IS spring. April snowstorms don’t last long at all.

Other people have birthdays in March, too. Ahem, just sayin’! Great list … I could only come up with 7, but I’m still working on it 🙂

Birds! Yes, the new songs that I’ll start hearing soon will make March a happier month!

I quadruple-vote for SPRING BREAK! I recently decided that for my Spring Break, I’m going to have a “StayCraftCation”. I’m going to play with my stashes of yarn and fabric for the entire week (including the two weekends). I’m going to preclean the house and stock the fridge and freezer with yummy goodness, so that I don’t have to do anything but play with crafts.

To start it off right, I’m taking a Beginning Quilting class the weekend before. I really can’t wait for that.

I cant hate March this year b/c Grace sent me a knit cabled hat in green. I usually loathe each and every one of the 31 days. I hate Lent, I hate ash wednesday, I hate dirty piles of snow, I hate the 40s which is all the temps get to here in chicago. I hate St. pats b/c I miscarried on that day long ago. So I best make a list of what I i will like this march:
My new hat from grace in gorgeous cabled green
    GOing on a vakay….
king cake….I love it too. I want the baby!
    forsythia buds swelling
    spring training baseball games
    first day of spring
springing the clocks ahead whilst working a night shift YIPPEEE!
I may foster a kitty this month if one comes available I would love that
    more sunlight
    and
finally: my swap is ending in March…maybe today!

I love that March comes on the heels of my least favorite month. This morning I could smell spring – it was NOT imagination – it is right around the corner! Happy day!

Carole, I must photo my first purple crocuses (crocii?) which I suddenly saw as I ducked out of the house yesterday morning…This morning I saw our daffodils just about to burst forth (the county already has many, but these are the first I’ve seen in town…)
I will try to post a photo tonight!
    (((hugs)))

I actually started learning about making sourdough bread a week before the stay at home orders thanks to @sprboston as he shared his starter and recipe and technique with me. Since then I have kept Mama Cass fed and alive and have baked many loaves of bread. This one might be my best one yet. I did the final proof in the fridge for 24 hours and baked it from its cold state.
