Ten On Tuesday

I sometimes feel like we have too many food related topics here on Ten on Tuesday. And yet, when we talk about food, there are more participants, more comments, and more discussion. And so, despite my reservations, this week’s topic is food related. It’s also current events related: 10 Favorite Super Bowl Party Foods.

  1. My number one favorite thing to eat while watching football is Buffalo Chicken Dip. I use this recipe and it’s the bomb. My friend who is hosting the party we will be attending has informed me she will be making a double batch for this Sunday. I hope it’s enough.
  2. Second to that dip is chili. You can make it ahead of time, it can be customized and served with all kinds of toppings, and it’s delicious.
  3. Jambalaya. I like to include chicken, sausage and shrimp. Yummmmm.
  4. Meatball subs. Seriously, buy frozen meatballs, dump them in a crockpot with jarred spaghetti sauce, wait a couple of hours and they are ready. Serve them on extra fresh sub rolls topped with fresh grated Parmesan cheese and your guests will love you.
  5. Pulled pork. Another one for the crockpot which makes it idea for a football party.
  6. Nachos. I think this one is self explanatory.
  7. Mexican layer dip. I don’t know why football makes me crave Mexican food but it does and that’s that. Pass the tortilla chips, won’t you?
  8. Deviled eggs. What’s a party without them?
  9. Whoopie Pies. See the picture up there? Those are the football shaped whoopie pies that I made for the AFC Championship Game. It was a little tricky getting the batter into a football shape but they tasted great.
  10. Brownies. For the Super Bowl I happen to think they should be cut into shapes with football themed cookie cutters. Just saying.
And now I will say something that will thrill some of you and possible offend some of you but I’m going to say it anyway.
GO PATS!

  1. I enjoy the foodie lists! your party looks a bit heavier on the meat than mine (of course I’m sure most will be!), but yummy. I’ve bookmarked that buffalo chicken dip – might be a good substitute for the actual wings (which are a mess to make – and eat!)

  2. Yum!! Chili has always been the standby dish for Superbowl Sunday at our house when I was growing up. I’m sure my mom will be making some this Sunday (and rooting for her Giants!)!! 🙂

  3. Since there’s not a 49er in sight, GO PATRIOTS! Sounds like fun will be had in your neck of the woods!

  4. You should say what you feel!! Goooo Pats!!! Guacamole is my #1 favorite thing to have at parties. A GOOD guacamole! Oh and good martinis, too.
    Goooo Pats!

  5. Yum! I printed out that dip too – it looks delicious. And bought some extra large olives for a special martinin! GO PATS!

  6. Great party list especially the whoopie pies! Here in Ct. we’re caught between two worlds. Long time Giant fans, but LOVE the Pats, too! I guess we can’t loose. Hubby is doing his guys skiing trip where the watch the Game. Wives go to lunch, catch the game at home of course while knitting.

  7. Hubby usually makes chicken wings and chili. I make this peanut butter crunch that is to die for with chex cereal, pretzels, and mini ritz crackers mixed with peanut butter and corn syrup. I will have to dig up the recipe for Sunday.

  8. Great list! I didn’t quite get to ten, having not watched football in over a decade. The buffalo chicken dip sounds fantastic. I’ll have to see if I can gather other meat eaters to help me eat it sometime… Perhaps knit night, less than 1/2 of the people are vegetarian…

  9. I never thought I’d want to the Patriots to win anything. But it will be good for Penn State football for our new coach to come into town fresh off a Super Bowl win. So go Pats!

  10. I am so hungry now! We have done Chili (we Canadians also have Grey Cup parties so yay!), Nachos (and I love the guac too!), 7 Layer Dip and other yummies. The whoopie pies look awesome – I have never had them. The buffalo chicken dip sounds wierd but I think we may have to give it a go.

I did want the Ravens to win but I hope your Pats are victorious!

  11. Of course we comment about food. How come you aren’t inviting me to your Superbowl party? Good thing, tho. I would have to spend the next 184 hours on the rower. *sigh* Isn’t that true of all good food??

  12. I just realized that I read this the other day and forgot to tell you how much I liked those whoopie pies. They look so cute and yummy.
