Ten on Tuesday

Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you! Whether you have a sweetheart or not today is about L-O-V-E and today’s Ten on Tuesday topic is about something I think we all love – chocolate. Specifically, 10 Favorite Chocolate Treats.

  1. My favorite thing is just straight up chocolate so my first thing on the list has to be a plain chocolate candy bar. Make it Green and Black’s Organic Dark Chocolate (I like the 70% best) and I’m a happy girl.
  2. Other types of chocolate candies: Rolos, Peanut Butter Cups, Mr. Goodbars, M&Ms, and Baby Ruth are my favorites.
  3. Chocolate Chip Cookies, especially when they are right out of the oven.
  4. Chocolate Cream Pie. It’s Dale’s favorite, too, and pretty simple to make.
  5. Chocolate Orange Tea. When my friend Terry first told me about this I was skeptical. Then I tried it. Heaven in a cup, I tell you and I’d rather have this than hot chocolate. Shocking, I know.
  6. Chocolate Layer Cake with Vanilla Buttercream Frosting. This is what my mom always made for me on my birthday. I just love the combination of vanilla frosting and chocolate cake. Mmmm.
  7. Chocolate Covered Strawberries. They are so quick and easy to make that I don’t know why we don’t have them more often.
  8. Brownies. I mean, really, how can you not have brownies on a list of favorite chocolate treats? I like them from a box and I love them from scratch. They are also good in variations that include caramel, nuts, frosting and other gooey goodness.
  9. Chocolate Truffles. And I mean the really good ones that are beautiful to look at and taste divine.
  10. A Chocolate Martini. A little vodka, a little Godiva liqueur, and a little Chambord. Oh yesssssss.
Truthfully, I don’t eat a lot of chocolate as I’m more of a savory snacker. That said, I really could go for some chocolate right about now!

  1. Yum! Chocolate! Funny how my chocolate craving hits at lunch time almost every day. Just one little bit of chocolate will curb the craving. Chocolate Orange tea?? Where might I find that??

  2. yum. especially the strawberries and the martini (I’ve had them out, but never mixed myself. I think I need to get some godiva liqueur!)

  3. I will take some reese’s peanut butter cups. The minis are the best because they get the salty peanut butter to sweet chocolate ratio just right! I also had some Sanders dark chocolate covered caramels topped with sea salt that were AMAZING!
I’m not much of a sweet snacker either but I like one little bite of sweet after dinner.

  4. I’m a huge sweet fanatic, so I’ve eaten most of the things on this list. I don’t seem to have the chops for martinis (I tried a chocolate martini once and I don’t think I even got a 1/5 of the way through), though I’ve had a good chocolate stout before.

  5. Everything on your list is something I’d love as an occasional delight (except maybe the tea). I’m a big fan of good chocolate, especially if it has a nut included. yumm

  6. I’d love to know more about the tea you mentioned. My mom makes a holiday fudge that is amazing. Any time I’m in “need,” I pull a small bite from the freezer.

  7. Yay for 6 and 8! I’m a humdrum chocolate eater and prefer the milk chocolate Hershey bar with almonds. There was a fascinating book all about the history of chocolate and the few companies that dominate. I learned all kinds of things, like that milk chocolate was hard to make because chocolate is an oil and milk is water based. Europe solved the problem one way, and Hershey solved it by overheating the milk, which gives its chocolate a slight sour milk flavor. Once that had been pointed out, I couldn’t help noticing that it’s true – but I like it anyway!

  8. I’d have to add one thing: Salted caramels with milk chocolate. Yum! I’ve never tried a chocolate martini, though. I don’t think I could do it.

  9. I must confess that I am a chocoholic, and everything on your list sounds good to me . I am also a big tea drinker and have never heard of chocolate tea, where might one purchase that ?

  10. My favorites usually have peanuts or cashews in them … since I’m also a savory snacker, I like the salty with the sweet. Still want to try one of those bacon chocolate bars! Valentine’s is all about love, and chocolate 🙂 Great topic!!

  11. How Pavlovian! Just reading this post made me salivate. I got my honey some Tabasco chocolates for V day–just for the heck of it and because he’s a native of Texas (thank goodness, he’s out of there since he is a Democrat). Anyway, they are really strange. Bite into one and it tastes just like really good dark chocolate. But then…the burn begins. Happy Valentine’s Day!
