Ten On Tuesday

Today is my sweet husband Dale’s birthday but it’s also a Tuesday and I didn’t want to let down my Ten on Tuesday participants. Sooooo, I found a way to combine these two things with today’s topic: 10 Ways to Feel Like a Kid Again. No one is better at being a big ole kid than Dale and it’s one of the things I love most about him. So here are our favorite things to do to make us feel like kids again:

  1. Ride our pretty, pretty bikes. There’s nothing like being on a 3 speed cruiser with pedal brakes to make you feel like a kid!
  2. Eat ice cream – preferably with jimmies! This will be a splurge for me this summer and that will make it all the better.
  3. Blow bubbles. I like those giant bubble wands but Dale is a traditionalist and he prefers the old fashioned small bottles with the single bubble wand.
  4. Play dress up. We are big on this at our house because, let’s face it, it’s fun to be someone else for a little while. It’s part of the reason why we enjoy reenacting, it’s why we throw a Halloween party every year, and it makes going to Jimmy Buffett concerts lots and lots of fun – more on that later this week.
  5. Light sparklers. Twirl them around. Oooh and ahhhh.
  6. Eat watermelon and spit the seeds as far as you can.
  7. Build an indoor fort. This is even better as an adult because it can involve adult beverages and other, errr, adult activities.
  8. Go to a carnival. Remember Dale’s birthday party last year with it’s carnival theme? Carnivals are fun! Go play games, ride some rides, go down the giant slide and just revel in the experience.
  9. Run through a sprinkler. Just don’t slip and fall – we don’t bounce back in quite the same way as kids!
  10. Laugh! Just let go and laugh, there’s nothing better.
I’m ready to play! And I’m ready to wish a happy happy birthday to my fun-loving-big-kid-husband, Dale! Won’t you all join me?

  1. Happy birthday dale!!!!
The last time I rode a bike with pedal brakes I fell off because I couldn’t remember how they worked! I’ve been riding with handbrakes for a long time.

  2. My husband is way more a kid than I, so I kind of wish I’d picked his brain for this (and I cannot believe I had forgotten about sparklers).

    Happy birthday, Dale!

  3. Happy Happy Birthday, Dale!!! Make sure you eat your watermelon OUTSIDE so you can spit those seeds as far as you like without gettin’ in trouble. 😉

  4. Terrific topic, Carole. It’s easy to forget to “play.” Happy birthday to Dale. I know it will be a great day!

  5. Happy Birthday Dale. I always thought summer birthdays were great. My friends had ice cream cakes for their parties. My husband’s birthday is in August and I usually get him an ice cream cake. It was always so cold in March that we never had one for my birthday. Enjoy the day

  6. Happy Birthday to Dale! Now that he’s old enough to enjoy those “adult beverages” legally, it should be a great time! (just kidding!) Enjoy the day and have a great year.

  7. Thanks so much for a topic forcing me to look for the positives! With our heat and smoke I’m needing all the help I can to find positives about the summer this year. I love you list and I hope you and Dale celebrated in style!

  8. Hope you had a very Happy Birthday, Dale!

My Dale and your Dale are both big kids – they’d have a blast together – birthday or not! Something in a name??

  9. Happy birthday, Dale!

It makes me feel like a kid to lie on my back in the grass and watch the clouds. Oh, and go barefoot. And look at lightning bugs (I don’t try to catch them anymore). Great topic!

  10. Though I did not participate on this one…I did think about some things that make me feel like a kid:
Jumping in the waves at the beach
Swinging and sliding at the playground
Eating ice cream – especially on a cone
    Lighting sparklers
    Making and eating S’mores
    Going on pic nics

We are having four days by the sea too. Ya can’t beat it!
