Ten On Tuesday

June 11, 2013 By Carole

A good friend had a slip up last week and when I asked him how it happened he said, “I got ungrateful.” And that made me think about all that we have to be grateful for every single day. Sure, we talk about it at Thanksgiving but an attitude of gratitude is something we should all remember. And so, it is in that spirit that I present this week’s Ten on Tuesday topic: 10 Times I Felt Grateful Last Week.

  1. When Dale agreed to pick up the groceries at the store so that I didn’t have to take the time to grocery shop on Friday.
  2. When I had lunch with a dear friend who lives far away now but was here visiting.
  3. When I got to congratulate my nephew on his high school graduation.
  4. When an employee that I appreciate very much returned to work after a 2 month absence due to health reasons.
  5. When the IV for my colonoscopy went in and only hurt a teeny bit. And, of course, when the whole colonoscopy thing was, ummm, behind me.
  6. When I was able to attend Town Meeting and vote in favor of the library expansion study.
  7. When I snuggled with Mason on the couch.
  8. When Hannah asked me for advice.
  9. When I had an excellent experience with L.L. Bean Customer Service.
  10. When Dale and I had a perfectly perfect Sunday together with no schedules, commitments or plans.

There is lots and lots to be grateful for every day, big stuff and small stuff. Tell me what you’re grateful for – and if you wrote a blog post about it please share your link below.

Yesterday was kind of ugh, but I reminded myself, I have a lot to be grateful for. Including that I have a job that I generally like, I can just walk to the gym at lunch and do tai chi, and that when the tire on my car went flat, at least it was while parked at work and not at 80 mph on the highway. As I struggled to get the donut out (its maiden voyage), I realized it was the first time in 12 years the thing had come out, yet another thing to be grateful for. and that my husband came back (it was after 6, everybody was gone) and helped me get the jack out of the car (it was wedged in) and followed me as we dropped it at the garage. Frustrating day at work, frustrating way to end a late day, but a TON to be grateful for.

What a great reminder . . . any time! There are so many little things to be grateful for every single day.

There are numerous things to be grateful for, every single day, thanks for the reminder 🙂 Over the weekend, I was particularly grateful that I was able to sit down to dinner with all my children at once … and that led me to think how lucky I was to have my ‘baby’ home from the Army, all in once piece, and how many Army moms do not have that Blessing at the end of their child’s service to our country. We are all truly Blessed. One only has to look around to see that it could be so much harder than we have it, and it could all be gone in a second. Treasure each and every Blessing <3

I am especially grateful today for my beautiful daughter celebrating her birthday. She is my first born and I can remember the wonder and joy I felt to see her for the first time. She has since gifted me with two granddaughters mean the world to me.

I am grateful that this is a practice that is done at the end of every day by both myself and my partner. We have a journal where we each write the 5 things we were grateful for that day. Sometimes it’s only food, air, home, and each other…. and other days there isn’t enough room on the page for all we are grateful for. Knowing that I will be sharing my day this way with my partner keeps me alert and aware of all I am grateful for everyday, and gives me a glimpse into his day as well!

I am grateful for my beautiful son who is happily married for two months; I am grateful for my husband of 38 years who is three years cancer free from what could have been terminal; and am so grateful for the women who write blogs! I started searching for stuff about knitting and found a whole other world where I could “meet” people with common interests–so important after I retired and didn’t have the daily interaction with others.
    Thanks for everything, Carole.

Thanks for the reminder to be grateful. I can easily fall into the trap of being resentful about things. It felt good to reflect on the positive and gave me a better attitude today!

A good, good list. I am grateful that our two grown daughters live not-too-far-away. But I do wish they’d get busy and provide grandchildren.

    Have a great week!

I actually started learning about making sourdough bread a week before the stay at home orders thanks to @sprboston as he shared his starter and recipe and technique with me. Since then I have kept Mama Cass fed and alive and have baked many loaves of bread. This one might be my best one yet. I did the final proof in the fridge for 24 hours and baked it from its cold state.
