Wednesdays Are For Knitting: Through the Loops Mystery Shawl 2014

Like so many of my knitting friends, I spent the month of June working on the Through the Loops Mystery Shawl. I bought the yarn from Black Trillium Fibre Studio and I managed to keep up with the weekly clues, finishing the entire thing on the 6th of July.

It’s beautiful and I love it. The colors are stunning and progress from light to dark in an awesome way.

I do wish there was more of the darkest color than just a couple of rows and the bind off, since that’s my favorite, though.

But still – beautiful. And really fun to knit. The pattern was challenging but not too difficult. Entertaining without being frustrating. And all the more enjoyable because I was knitting along (virtually, of course) with a whole whack of other friends.

Now here comes the part you’ll probably find surprising: I gave it away. Yes, indeed. As much as I love it, I realized about halfway through the process that it just wasn’t meant to be mine, it was meant to belong to my sister-in-law, Mary.

And so, I gave it to her as a gift for her 60th birthday. She was thrilled and I am happy that it has gone to a good and loving home.

Of course, this means I will have to knit another one.

  1. A beautiful gift! I, like many of us, wished the last clue had more of the darkest color. Yours reminds me of a persimmon.

  2. Wow! Stunning. Your crazy knit skill is only exceeded by your generosity!

  3. As part of the whack pack, I was so happy to knit along with you for this project. It turned out beautifully. How wonderful that you gave it to exactly the right person.

  4. The best part was knitting along with favorite peeps! Seeing the shawl in a variety of colors from blue to pink to gray to orange, showed just how cool the pattern is. I love your persimmon, so warm, and refreshing. It just pops! You have always been a generous knitter and a 60th birthday is very special. You made hers that much better!
