Ten On Tuesday

August 30, 2016 By Carole

After a two week hiatus we are back with Ten On Tuesday. And this week’s topic is an appropriate one: 10 Things I Miss About My Home When I’m Away. Let’s do this!

saturday morning coffee for carole knits

  1. Air conditioning. Normally I don’t miss this when we are on the Cape because it’s usually cooler there. Not this year, though, particularly at the very beginning of our vacation.
  2. The garden. I miss picking tomatoes and basil daily.
  3. The deck furniture. We have a lovely deck at our vacation house but it lacks those comfortable couches I have at home.
  4. The container gardens. There’s just nothing lovely to look at while sitting on the deck at our rental. I get it, there isn’t someone to regularly water flowers, but it just makes me miss mine more.
  5. My pillows. I have the-best bed pillows.
  6. The Instant Pot. I actually contemplated bringing it but talked myself out of it.
  7. The Keurig. The coffee pot at the Cape? Slower than slower. I miss that instant jolt of good strong brew first thing when I get up.
  8. The ice maker. I spent a lot of time on vacation filling ice cube trays. First world problem, I know.
  9. Our big TV. I know that yesterday I said my favorite evenings are the ones where we don’t watch TV – and that’s very true. But I do like to catch the news in the morning and maybe a movie once in a while.
  10. Our friends and family. As nice as it is to go away it’s extra nice to come home and reconnect with the people who matter most.

I guess the cliche is true – there’s no place like home. As I said to Dale Sunday night, I just wish we could pick up our house and plunk it down on Cape Cod by the beach. Is that too much to ask?

Coffee… gah, that is crucial to the success of any day, let alone a vacation day!! I am taking my Bialetti on our upcoming trip, but alas, the Instant Pot will have to stay home! Oh, and ice… yes! Hahaha. Great list Carole!

Love the idea of “picking up your house and plunking it down…” Kansas anyone? Lots of connections on your list and another fun ToT. Welcome Home!

    Cheers~

Good thing you like your home enough to come back! Tell me about your wonderful pillows. My neck is telling me I’m due for a new one.

I too would like to know about the pillows. It’s been a marriage long quest, especially for Doug. And that hot coffee…on the spot. That is what I miss too!

The nice thing about tea is it’s easy to transport. There is no place like home. We all miss the simple things, the routines, and the people. They make home home!

I hear you about the coffee maker! For me it’s tea – I don’t like bringing my loose-leaf tea with me, and bagged isn’t quite as good.

it’s hard for me to imagine no air conditioning; that’s what I call “outside” and it’s hot right now! and too funny about the Keurig – my mom has one, but I miss my full pot of drip coffee (sounds like the one at the beach might need to be cleaned to brew faster) …. in any event – home sweet home!

Enjoyed participating in this ‘hop’ – but now that you mention it, first world problems indeed (apart from missing our human and canine family members)!

Great list! I always appreciate my own house and everything we have after returning
from vacation. And I hear you about the coffee! That is #1 for me! 🙂 Please tell
us about your pillows – I started looking for some recently.

I actually started learning about making sourdough bread a week before the stay at home orders thanks to @sprboston as he shared his starter and recipe and technique with me. Since then I have kept Mama Cass fed and alive and have baked many loaves of bread. This one might be my best one yet. I did the final proof in the fridge for 24 hours and baked it from its cold state.
