I could show you a photo of Hannah's Waffle Pullover in it's current state but…
Weekending, March 13th-15th, 2026
It was a lovely weekend once again, full of time at home, time with friends, and time with family. I know I’m fortunate to spend my weekends doing the things that fill my cup.

The weekend started in the best possible way because when I went out to check on the hellebores I found buds! Three out of four of the varieties I have are showing buds and I couldn’t be happier to see them.
I don’t have a single photo but on Friday night we hosted our monthly Fireside Friday gathering. This is basically the regulars of our Pergola Thursday group and it’s such a relaxing way to entertain because everyone brings food to share and their own drinks. I set out glasses and paper plates (shocking, for me, if you know me) and everything else is covered. We always have great conversation and it’s a good way to catch up with our friends.

I spent Saturday reading and knitting, watching 2 more Oscar Best Picture nominees (Sentimental Value and Train Dreams) and that brought my total count of Best Pictures watched to 7. I was not a completist this year and I am okay with that.

I made corned beef and cabbage for dinner. I’ve done this in the crockpot and on the stove top but this is the first time I’ve made it in the dutch oven and it was the best by far. The price of the meat was ridiculous so I’m especially happy that it turned out well. And there are plenty of leftovers, too.

Sunday was another day at home, this time with prep for the Academy Awards. It’s an important ritual for me every year and I truly enjoy the red carpet and the show. We always have special food, ballots to predict the winners, and Bingo cards for all kinds of things that happen throughout the show.

It was a solid show last night. No surprises in the winners, no bad or outlandish behavior of any of the presenters or winners, and no real wardrobe flops. Hannah and I both felt that Rose Byre and Renate Reinsve had the best looks and neither of us cared for the dress that Jessie Buckley wore. We also appreciated the brooches that many of the men wore on the lapels of their tuxedos. You can see pictures of the various outfits in this New York Times (gifted) article.

And finally, a weekend selfie. I take a selfie at least once a week and I’m happy to share them with you.
I hope your weekend was a good one and I hope the week ahead is terrific.

Sounds like a nice weekend Carole! We were over at C&M’s on Sunday for lunch which was corned beef, potatoes, cabbage, carrots, Irish soda bread and a Guinness chocolate cake. Oh my! All was delicious. I did not watch the Oscars (I rarely do) and the only movie I saw out of the potential winners was Train Dreams which I really liked. We are having a very rainy Monday, so it is difficult to wake up. Hope your week is off to a great start.
I tend to prefer braises done in the oven, so I’m not surprised by your corned beef verdict. I’m not much of an Oscars person since it moved to March. I think it’s more that I have become an infrequent movie goer. Thinking about your pergola group, it seems like this is one of those community building events that organizers have been encouraging us to do as things ramped up in Mpls. And, of course, seeing your peeps regularly is fun! You’re very good at creating positive rituals, and it’s making me think maybe I should consider how to add something to my calendar.
I’m glad to see your hellebore buds and your corned beef and cabbage looks great. I was thinking about looking for corned beef after St. Patrick’s Day when the grocery store might have too many and also wondering if I could corn a venison roast. It sounded pretty time-consuming so I didn’t try.
What a fantastic weekend, Carole! Those hellebores look promising! I spent some time in the garden… we had lots of tree limbs down from the storms and that was a good excuse to get outside for a bit!
