I know, because of the comments from last week, that many of you enjoy reading…
Ten On Tuesday
It’s the first Ten on Tuesday of 2015 and that can mean only one thing – we are going to talk about intentions. Or resolutions. Or goals. Or things we want to do. Call them what you will, ignore them if you will, but I think it’s good to think about what I want to do, ways I want to change, things I want to accomplish at the start of a new year. And so, My Intentions for 2015 are to:
- Use my iPhone camera. As my friend Gale always says, the best camera is the one you have with you and I always, always have my phone with me. I’m open to suggestions for great apps to make my photos look better but I can already see that the camera in the iPhone 6 is a good one.
- Join instagram. Maybe. Mary says she’s making it her personal goal to get me to do this so I’m putting in here. It may not be my intention but if it’s hers I have a feeling that resistance is futile.
- Fully participate in One Little Word. Last year I got behind a bit over the summer and, while I managed to catch up, the prompts didn’t feel as fresh as they would have if I had been doing that as they were released. This year I plan to fully embrace the whole thing and in a timely way, too.
- Recommit to exercise. I used to go to the gym 5 times a week and now I tell myself I’m too busy. Nothing has changed, I’m not busier than I was in 2013, I’m just better at making excuses. So I’m committing to 3 times per week. It should be more but 3 feels doable and I think being realistic is important here.
- Read 52 books. I almost made it last year – I finished book 52 on January 2nd. I like the idea of a book a week so that’s what I’m setting for my goal.
- Stop procrastinating. I know you all thing I’m this paragon of organization and virtue but when it comes to stuff I don’t like to do, I’m just like everyone else and I procrastinate. You want to know the biggest thing I put off? Going to the bank. I hate going to the bank but I have to do it frequently for work and I put it off and well, I’m going to just stop doing that.
- Get all gold medals in Mario Kart. Yes, this is silly but I love playing Mario Kart and I just need gold in the 150cc races. I’m doing it even if Rainbow Road makes me want to poke my eyes out.
- Waste less food. This starts with meal planning and I’m off to a good start, having planned this week’s meals partly from purchases and partly from stuff in the freezer.
- Spend less money. I’m still good on spending money on the big stuff – hell, we just bought a new car – and I sure hope we go to Mexico again this year – but I want to cut back on spending money on little stuff like take out and eating out and buying stupid things I don’t really need. Spending less on the little stuff will mean we have more available to spend on the big stuff. Yes, there is a method to my madness.
- Try new things. Make mistakes. Be bold. Change. Grow.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it, my friends. What will you do in 2015? If you wrote a blog post for today please add a link to it below. If you want to subscribe to the weekly Ten on Tuesday email then please click here.

I have also made renewed dedication to the gym a goal after getting off track with several things. My other biggie is to weed out things and (gasp!) books we aren’t using stash does not fall in that category although it may get curated a bit.
I love the variety and fun you included in your intentions. I’ve already noticed on goodreads that you’re reading more, so you’re off to a great start with #5!
#10 by itself could encompass an entire lifetime!
I have really liked buying less Stuff. Think about it a half hour afterwards, and find how much you forget about it, or why it seemed so nice in the first place. Sobering.
Excellent list, Carole. And I am most happy about your renewed commitment to the gym!!! (You DO have time.) I share many of the same goals. We’ll have to cheer each other on! (Mary talked me into the Instagram thing last year. Jury is still WAY out on that one. . . )
Great list. I love Instagram – so many beautiful photos. Although I can spend too much time on it. My goal is to spend less time on social media.
Like I told Kym, I think intentions is a better word than resolutions…makes for a little less stress in your life.
Your list is a good one and there are several things in it that I should be intending to do too! 😀
Yes the camera on the 6 is amazing. I downloaded photoshop and that seems to be working well. Once you really get on Instagram you will really like it. It’s probably my favorite thing to look at on my phone. And hey – Instagram ties right in with #10. Just do it!
I love #10 and will cheer you on as well regarding the gym. It just takes getting there, the rest is so good! Regarding Instagram, I like it, do what I can and really, there are some beautiful shots out there. I recommend following the US Interior. 😉
I love #10, so important
Great set of intentions! I’ve been trying to spend less on junk, too. It helps when I put things in perspective. When I want to eat out and don’t need to, I tell myself that I’d be eating my daughter’s tuition. 🙂
I love how quick and easy Instagram is. Snapseed, VSCOcam, Afterlight, Litely are a few apps I like. The phone cameras are a blast once you get used to using them. You have a great list and I know they are all things you can do!
I am a big fan of rewards. Figure out a fun way to reward yourself when you go to the bank — make a special stop at Starbucks, take a walk around the square, whatever. Just make it something enjoyable that you wouldn’t otherwise take the time for. And good luck!
Haha. You’ve got 5-in-1 with #10!! Good ones, too.
😉
Wow, 51 books, that is impressive! I did well to read 5. Wonderful list and many of them should be on my list as well. 🙂 xoxo
love your list! having a hell of a time getting that link up to work 🙁 oh well, I LOVE everyone’s lists so far
This was fun! I think I needed to articulate some intentions and set some goals.
Definitely recommit to the gym! I could tell how happy you were with yourself when you would share your success about that 🙂
At least half your list should be on mine, especially procrastination and not wasting food. i have my own version of #10 and really plan to focus on that. How are you going to monitor these, if you are? I often think about this question when I resolve to do anything!
Carole, can you please share more information about One Little Word? I tried to find information on the internet and found a blog by the same name…but the creators are discontinuing it. I would very much like to do this…and it sounds as if there’s more to it than just word selection. Thanks so much for your help!
I love your blog and ashamed to say that I’ve never commented – I’ll have to work on that in the new year ahead!
what a wonderful list! PicTapGo is my favorite photo editing app for the iPhone and it’s from the RadLab folks; many of the filters from RadLab are in PicTapGo. (and it interfaces directly to Instagram…just sayin’) here’s to 2015!!
“Make mistakes” is somethingI don’t do often enough. Thanks for the reminder!
